Clarification (in other words, I surrender....)

There is a belief that because of certian posts I do from time to time, that I am crying out before I do 'something rash.' if you are thinking ending my own life, that would be impossible, if only for the simple reason I am too much of a coward.

But what I am dealing with no pill, motivational saying, or realignment of planets can solve. The fact that I do not belong here.

It is a fact (not opinion, fact) that I have dealt with for most of my adult life. I have not sellable talents. I cannot be take seriously by the masses, so sales are out (I'm not Sammy Slickhair either). Any talents I do have are not not bankable ones.

I can't lie well. I'm not good at small talk. I don't like long walks and I don't want a pet. So relationships are out.

I hate wars. Not just the ones with guns and tanks. I'm talking about the wars we fight between us. The constant rich-poor-middle, black-white-whatever, gay-straight-bi-trans, Christian-Muslim-Jew-whatever wars we have fought almost since the dawn of time and that have gotten worse in the last 16 months. So I can't be a conservative and I'm making a lousy liberal.

Even in faith, I can't get the answers I seek. Like what happnens after the end. I'm not talking about THAT.....or even THAT. I'm talking about what happens after THAT. No one knows.

So in essence, I am empty. I have fought these battles until I have been spent. I have lost my home, my livelihoods, my family, probably friends, all because I see truths that no one can see, and I ask questions that no one can answer. And with seven to twenty years left, i can't fight it any more.

I surrender.

I can't fight the tide anymore. The stupids have won. I have lost. What more can i say.

So I will probably spend the remainder of my time, if I can, being the best worker ant I can be for whoever wants me. Hopes, dreams, goals...they never exisited anyway. Neither does love. I'm done fighting that war as well.

Maybe God will place me in someplace where I can do no harm, where I can live out my life harmlessly and without controversy. And maybe I will be allowed to see the thing I have said come to pass. And maybe, when I do go, I'll simply fall asleep. Maybe that's the best.

Until then, I will not force any hand. i'll just be like the rest, unquestioning, unreasoning, save for the occasional post i might slip in.

And to those friends who are still with me, who are concerned, I am otherwise fine. I'm just giving up the wars and letting the world do what it will do.

For in the end, there truly is a reason for living. It's called the next day.

Ben Gazzara on the Dick Cavett Show (with Cassavettes and Falk)

As you know, the actor Ben Gazzara died yesterday at 81. My main remberence of him was as an intense actor doing a series for NBC called Run For Your Life, their answer to ABC's The Fugitive.

Between that was Anatomy of a Murder before and Husbands after. Husbands, a collaboration with close friends John Cassevettes and Peter Falk, was a breakthtough drama that, in 1970, ushered in the beginnings of American independent film.

In that year, to promote Husbands, Gazzara, Cassavettes, and Falk appeared as the sole guests on ABC's The Dick Cavett Show. This 45-minute edition was timed such because of Monday Night Football. The end result is the raucous, out-of-control show we present below in its entirety. I think it gives you the essence of who Gazzara and his fellows truly were.

It has been quite the 24 hours...two calls from temp agencies, and another two today. I am a happy camper...so far.

First, let me douse a bit of cold water water on me and you. These are interviews. I do not have a job as of yet. They will probably test me on my deteriorating skills and I would be put on call. But after 14 months of nothing, this is the closest to something I have been through in awhile.

But because of bills (automatic billing sucks sometimes) I'm going to try to live on $5.00 in two days. If I can get through the next 14 days, i might be able to climb out of the tunnel.

To all who have helped me, thank you so much. You do not know how much you were able to help me survive this hell. It looks like it is coming to a close, and I want to do something to thank you. I just don't know what it will be just yet...maybe just meeting at a Starbucks.

And if you allow me a bit of Tebowing, thank you God, for all the people I have mentioned, and many more that I could not, you've placed in my path for a reason. Many of them were not your shining lights of virtue. But they were true and honest and real. And at the time, they were the people I needed most. Some were libertines. Some were saintly. Some even fictional (hi Mayor Mills). But they all had one thing in common...all were parts of me and as a whole they kept me alive so far.

So...here we go. Wish me luck. Maybe this time I can win one.

They're BACK!

The Wonderful people at the Americam Family ASSociation are back again, targeting (and in some cases THREATENING) companies that do not cram Christmas down the throats of...well...anyone who either does not ahere to the Christian faith (as proscribed by the Neck-less WIldmons), people respectful of other beliefs, or folks just sick and tired of 24-hour ho-ho-ho.

This year's main target....the wonderful folks at America's Drug Store

Yesterday (Tuesday), Walgreens placed a 24-page circular in newspapers all across America. It had all the festive markings of that day known as...Holiday?
It's true! At Walgreens, they advertise "Holiday Candy," "Holiday Gift Tags," "Holiday Gift Wrap," "Holiday Decor," "Holiday Accessories," "Holiday Nuts and Snacks" and "Holiday Hats and Stockings." But no Christmas! In total, Walgreens used the term "holiday" 36 times, rather than using "Christmas."

(Wow...these people have so much time on their hands. i wonder how much they pay the word counters....)

Oh, the trees advertised in their circular? It's just "Prelit" trees.

(Oh that's nice...now I don't have to risk electrocution..)

Go to Walgreens' website and you can shop their "Holiday Shop" and take advantage of their "Holiday Shipping." If you want Christmas, it's not there.

(uh...doo-fi, it's there...as well as Hannukah, Ramadan, Kwanzaa, and just plan "gimme my stiff on the 25th. Ever heard of RESPECT, morons?)

At Walgreens, Christmas doesn't exist! Walgreens wants you to do your "Christmas" shopping with them, while refusing to recognize that Christmas even exists.
Walgreens doesn't want to offend non-Christians by using the word Christmas. The fact that they're censoring the use of Christmas and might offend Christians by doing so seems to be of no importance.

TAKE ACTION

(Actually, this is OUR action..)

1. DO NOT Sign ANY pledge to boycott Walgreens this Christmas season.

2. Call Walgreens' Customer Service at 1-800-289-2273 and let them know you will BUY AS MUCH STUFF AS POSSIBLE their stores this Christmas/Hannukah/Kwanzah/Whatever, and THANK THEM for recognizing that there is more than one holiday being celebrated at this time of the year. Especially thank them if you are a Christian, for respect for other faiths is what God and His Son commands us to do.

3. AFA has released its annual "Naughty or Nice" list of retailers for 2011. Find out how other stores stand in the War on Christmas. (actually, I'll save you the trouble...these are the companies that are NOT being held hostage by the AFA (as well as Bill O'REALLY's private war on repect...

The frustration level is starting to show from the letters I keep getting from Son Of NoNeck, Little Timmt Wildmon, and the 'phobes over at the American Family ASSociation.

As you probably know, AFA has been targeting The Home Depot since the summer of '10 over it repeated, consistant, and blantant attempts to try to see homomsexuals, bisexuals, and transgenders as....perish the thought...actual human beings.

Since August of 2010, I have been bombarded with AFA e-mails AGAHST at the antics of the more flamboyant participants in Pride activities.

And all of their screeds end with a plea to sign thier petition to boycott Home Depot (more on that in a few paragraphs), and...of course...send money.

I'll leave out the pitch for money and the link to the boycott...and get to the meat of the lastest comminique from Generalissimo Wildmon:

Dear Donald,

Home Depot is showing it wants to advance same-sex
marriage in America. The company is planning to set up a booth at the October
8-9 Gay Pride Festival in Atlanta. The event includes a "Commitment Ceremony" in
which two gays get "married."

Home Depot is also sponsoring the Atlanta pride parade and plans

signed the pledge to boycott Home Depot until it agrees to remain neutral in the
culture and political war over homosexual marriage.

Let me point out something. If a boycott is to be sucessful, you have to have a indication that people are no longer supporting the target of the boycott...right?

According to Reuters, The Home Depot same store earnings ROSE....ROSE 4.5%. And with a upbeat holiday forecast, the wily Jim Cramer has gone BOO-YA! on Home Depot stock.

In other words, Tim Wildmon, your boycott is a failure.

I remember several years ago when the anti-legalized-abortion forces were almost winning thier battle, using time-honored grass roots efforts in local areas, until the Randall Terry freakshow came to town, shoving dead feti in the faces of any he can fine. The anti-abortion bandwagon went downhill from there.

And just as Herr Terry became an embarassment to the "pro-life" movement, you, Mr. Wildmon, your neckless father, and the AFA have, with your silly boycotts and equally cartoonish freakshows, become an embarrasment to all Christianity.

For the sake of us all, Mr. Wildmon, please go away. You're not welcome here anymore.

One of those things that explains everything

So.....why am I opening this blog with a publicity picture from that bomb-of-all-bombs, Ishtar?

Because I was going through this month's Wired, when I came upon an article about lost pop culturer treasures...you know..missing footage from Dr. Stragelove, Jerry Lewis' Nazi clown movie...stuff like that. That when I saw something about that suitcase nuke starring Warren Beatty and Dustin Hoffmann that almost wiped Columbia Pictures off the map.

It was about two REALLY BAD songwriters...but the songs were, according to the article...brilliantly crummy. That's thanks to Paul Williams, who took time out from writing hits for the Carpenters and starring in Burt Reynolds' movies to pen some of the gems sprinkled in the film, making them sound just good enough to give you hope before it all goes in the toilet.

Out of that, one lyric was posted in the article that pretty much sums up what I have been going through with my various posts online and dealing with people I love who have yet to see the way. And if you have been dealing with truth to...you will understand..

But last night I was thinking about what happened a fews house ago, having my life taken away from me and essentially starting over again.

There are people who are amazed that I am in such good spirits.

Make no mistake, I am still highly pissed that this has happened to me again and that I have to go to the well one more time. Let's face it, it does not make me look good.

But it could have been worse. I could have been Leiby Kletzky.

Leiby WAS a cute 8-year old boy who had the misfortune of being killed and dismembered a few days ago. The man who is suspected in this murder is being examined for mental capacity.

Imagine, not knowing what it will ever be to be 9 is bad enough...but dismembered?

Or I could be Raha Abdi Nor. This young mother lives in Mogadishu, in the middle of a Somali war, the result of which is a crippling famine. This woman has to watch her 4 young children waste away to literally skin and bones because of lack of food.

And there are many people I could have been yesterday. All truly suffering, all truly desparate. Many of them dead or close to dying. Crap happens every day. My crap was losing the stuff that symbolized my life.

The fact that I am typing this proves I got off easy.

Now then, here is where I stand. I washed pretty much everything, which means I only have the clothes on my back and that's. It gets cold at the casa, so I also will need a blanket or two.

I did borrow a charger so I do have LIMITED phone access. I also will be getting my unemployment check next week. So I have lowered the target to about $200. That should take care of things.

There are two ways you can help. The Chip in at the right. you don't have to send much, but $20 or $30 will do. OR you can click the Amazon Wish list button to the right...it has pretty much all the things that were taken and you can choose one or two to help out.

I will make this brief. This afternoon at about 2pm, I was robbed.

This happened at a shoping mall in Encino. I had just done laundry and I walked over to the store to grapb an energy shot. A cautionary to all...all it takes is a minute.

All my clothes were taken, as well as my charger for my phone (which thankfully I still have, along with my ID). Bottom line is what I have on now is all that I have.

I need help. Since I am not working, I am trying to raise emergency funds to get changes of clothing and a new charger.

I am asking those who read my blogs and those who follow me on various networks for you help. Whatever you can do I would appreciate.

I know, this is the weekend when we pay lip service to our love for our country, while downing as many hotdogs as we can muster.

But before you start waving the flag around, answer these questions?

When was the last time you voted?

When was the last time you wrote to/called your Congressman. Or Mayor. Or President?

When was the last time you actually researched a political position...instead of reying on talk hosts, commentators, or even passed-on e-mails?

When was the last time you said something positive about public figure you disagreeed with poltically?

When was the last time you said something negative about public figure you agreeed with poltically?

When was the last time you bought a gift card from a restaurant to a homeless person?

When was the last time you did a kindness for an undocumented visitor?

When was the last time you actually sought to understand another fait other than yours?

When was the last time you enjoyed a movie/song/tv show featuring an person whose politics were different than yours?

When was the last time you actually saluted the flag as you passed it by.

There are a lot more, but you get the picture.

It seems there's a lot of people who pledge patriotism....but many are just Americans in Name Only. Are you one?

Ladies and Gentlemen, I am the man you all know as John Doe. I took that name because it seems to describe -- because it seems to describe the average man, and that's me -- and that's me.

Well, it was me -- before I said I was gonna jump off the City Hall roof at midnight on Christmas Eve. Now, I guess I'm not average any more. Now, I'm getting all sorts of attention, from big shots, too -- the mayor and governor, for instance. They don't like those articles I've been writing.

Well, people like the Governor -- can stop worrying. I'm not gonna talk about them. I'm gonna talk about us, the average guys, the John Does.

If anybody should ask you what the average John Doe is like, you couldn't tell him because he's a million and one things. He's Mr. Big and Mr. Small. He's simple and he's wise. He's inherently honest, but he's got a streak of larceny in his heart. He seldom walks up to a public telephone without shoving his finger into the slot to see if somebody left a nickel there.

He's the man the ads are written for. He's the fella everybody sells things to. He's Joe Doakes, the world's greatest stooge and the world's greatest strength.

Yes, sir -- Yes, sir, we're a great family, the John Does. We are the meek who are -- who are supposed to inherit the earth. You'll find us everywhere. We raise the crops; we dig the mines, work the factories, keep the books, fly the planes and drive the busses. And when a cop yells: "Stand back there, you!" He means us, the John Does!

We have existed since time began. We built the pyramids. We saw Christ crucified, pulled the oars for Roman emperors, sailed the boats for Columbus, retreated from Moscow with Napoleon and froze with Washington at Valley Forge.

Yes, sir. We've been in there dodging left hooks since before history began to walk. In our struggle for freedom we've hit the canvas many a time, but we always bounced back! Because we're the people -- and we're tough.

They've started a lot of talk about free people going soft -- that we can't take it. That's a lot of hooeyl A free people can beat the world at anything, from war to tiddle-de-winks, if we all pull in the same direction.

I know a lot of you are saying "What can I do? I'm just a little punk. I don't count." Well, you're dead wrong! The little punks have always counted because in the long run the character of a country is the sum total of the character of its little punks.

But, we've all got to get in there and pitch. We can't win the old ballgame unless we have teamwork. And that's where every John Doe comes in. It's up to him to get together with his teammates. And your teammate, my friend, is the guy next door to you. Your neighbor -- he's a terribly important guy that guy next door. You're gonna need him and he's gonna need you, so look him up. If he's sick, call on him. If he's hungry, feed him. If he's out of a job, find him one.

To most of you, your neighbor is a stranger, a guy with a barkin' dog and high fence around him. Now, you can't be a stranger to any guy that's on your own team. So teach down the fence that separates you. Tear down the fence and you'll tear down a lot of hates and prejudices. Tear down all the fences in the country and you'll really have teamwork.

I know a lot of you are saying to yourselves, "He's askin' for a miracle to happen. He's expectin' people to change all of a sudden. Well, you're wrong. It's no miracle. It's no miracle because I see it happen once every year. And and so do you -- at Christmas time. There's somethin' swell about the spirit of Christmas, to see what it does to people, all kinds of people.

Now, why can't that spirit, that same, warm Christmas spirit last the whole year around? Gosh, if it ever did, if each and every John Doe would make that spirit last 365 days out of the year, we'd develop such strength, we'd create such a tidal wave of good will that no human force could stand against it. Yes sir, my friends, the meek can only inherit the earth when the John Doe's start lovin' their neighbors.

You better start right now. Don't wait till the game is called on account of darkness.

Oh I Just love this

As you probably know, I have having my own private war with the Donald-and-Tim-Wildmon-run American Family ASSociation for some time. Among some of the actions they take are boycotts-at-virtual-gunpoint of companies and individuals they claim are not "neutral in the culture wars," i. e., believe that gays, Lesbians, bisexuals and transgenders are also human.

Their latest target is The Home Depot, who has been found guilty by the Twits from Tupelo, MS of such unChristian crimes as supposrting PFLAG, the Human Rights Coalition, and sponsoring GAY PRIDE PARADES! HORRORS!!!

So for the past year they have been holding a boycott of Home Depot operations.

Now Home Depot was doing their annual stockholders convention in Atlanta. AFA said that "many stockholders were upset" with Home Depot's stand on the Sodomites. So they came to the convention with one message: step away from the gays, or we'll buy our ladders and paint elsewhere.

In an e-mail I got from AFA's "news" operation One News Now, a Mr. Charles Butts (GOD, I can have some fun with THAT one!!!) reported the following:

The American Family Association's boycott of The Home Depot continues
after corporate executives heard from those opposed to the company's strong
support of the homosexual agenda.

It was a unique opportunity for the
Mississippi-based pro-family group to deliver its message regarding The Home
Depot's "corporate endorsement" of the homosexual agenda. AFA executive vice
president Buddy Smith traveled to Atlanta to attend the annual shareholders
meeting, where he addressed Home Depot chairman Frank Blake and other company
executives for a three-minute period.

Accompanying Smith was Randy Sharp, AFA's director of special
projects. He summarizes what took place.

"We presented to the
shareholders and to the chairman and the board of directors over 470,000
signature petitions asking them to remain neutral in the culture war,
specifically when it addresses gay marriage and homosexual activist groups,"
Sharp tells OneNewsNow.

The reception was cool, adds the AFA spokesman.
Blake thanked AFA for the petitions but again, as in the past, reiterated the
company's support for "diversity," which includes same-gender "marriage."

Sharp adds: "We're disappointed that The Home Depot continues to close
the door and not listen to the millions of customers who are offended that they
are engaging in the culture war and taking a position in favor of gay marriage."

As a result, the American Family Association plans to continue its
boycott and encourage others to sign the pledge to not do business with The Home
Depot until the company agrees to be neutral on social issues.

According
to the boycott website, the nationwide home improvement retailer sponsors and
participates in numerous "gay pride" events, parades, and festivals across the
U.S. where small children are exposed to "open displays of homosexual activism."
The boycott was launched in July 2010.

So how IS that little boycott of yours doing? Well, same store sales did slip in the first quarter of 2011, but only by a paltry .6% overall and .7% in the US. But before you start the party, note that the weather around the country has been pretty bad, causing people not to go to stores for anything (unless, of course, it was tornado related).

In fact you MAY have to remind your faithful flock that the boycott is against The Home Depot....not Lowe's, Home Depot's main competitor. Their in-store sales were down whopping 3.4%.

Meanwhile, back at the Depot, this did not effect profits for while Lowe's was down 6% for the first quarter of 2011, Home Depot net profits were UP by 12%. In other words, they've made MORE money since you called that lame boycott of yours, not less.

So to No-Neck, Jr., a hale and hearty neener-neener-neener. And as for The Home Depot, please expect more of the continued patronage from those of us who feel you are doing the right thing.

A challenge to my followers for Memorial Day

This is for all of my followers in Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo, and LinkedIn. You know who you are.

I have often wondered what would happen if we could not check off our charitable contributions off our income taxes.

People would stop giving, you dummy.

Of course. The problem is, we'd reveal how uncharitable we are. As Rainn Wilson's new book, "SoulPancake" reads, "Perhaps real generosity is actually the act of ANONYMOUS giving." So with that, I'd like to do a little experiment that I found in the book.

First, do not make me the target of this. I'd appreciate it, but that is not the point. Also do it only if you can, but if you have at least 10 of these, you can probably spare one.

The experiment is called REVERSE PICKPOCKET:

Pull out the biggest bill in your wallet (unless it is earmarked for a bill or emergency)

Stash the cash in an envelope labled "YOU HAVE BEEN TAGGED BY A POLYBI REVERSE PICKPOCKET!"

Slip the loot into the bag of a stranger. If you are feeling bold, aim for the back pocket.

Don't get caught. Might get awkward.

When is an Adult an Adult?

(Reuters) - The Wisconsin Supreme Court on Friday rejected challenges to a life-without-parole sentence for a man who at age 14 chased down, beat and then tossed a teenager to his death off a hospital parking ramp.

Omer Ninham argued his sentence for killing Zong Vang, 13, in 1998 violated U.S. and Wisconsin constitutional prohibitions on cruel and unusual punishment. He called the sentence "unduly harsh and excessive" and sought the possibility of parole.

"There is no question that Ninham's punishment is severe, but it is not disproportionately so," Justice Annette Kingsland Ziegler wrote for the court. "The manner in which Ninham took Vang's life was horrific and senseless."

Ninham and four other teens accosted Vang near dusk in September 1998 while he toted a bag of tomatoes home from a grocery store in Green Bay, the opinion states. They taunted Vang, snatching his bicycle and threw the bag to the ground.

Ninham punched Vang and the group chased him to the top of a five-story hospital parking ramp nearby where he was punched, pinned to a wall and then Ninham and another teen, Richard Crapeau, swung Vang back-and-forth over the ramp's wall before letting go.

Vang landed on his head and trunk on the paved exit lane below and could not be revived.

Crapeau, who was 13 at the time of Vang's murder, was also convicted of murder and sentenced to life with the possibility of parole after 50 years.

Pre-sentence reports found Ninham's family to be extremely dysfunctional with substance abuse and domestic violence and that the teen himself was a "serious substance abuser."

"The terror experienced by the victim and the hurt suffered by his family and friends is, in a word, unimaginable," Ziegler wrote.

The question is not whether Mr. Ninham should be punished for his crime. The question is, why do you treat someone as an adult for somethings and not for others. It would be simple is we just said this is the age that you are an adult for ALL things (and make it a realistic age...18 or 21 is not).

Facebook to combat child pornography with new Microsoft PhotoDNA software

Online photography isn’t all cats and double rainbows. A hideous subset of humanity uses the extensive array of digital photography and Internet distribution channels now available to pass around the worst-of-the-worst: child pornography. And now that Facebook has become the largest photo-sharing site on the Internet, it is taking new, robust steps to combat this scourge.

Starting this week, Facebook will become the first company to adopt a newly released Microsoft software called PhotoDNA, which was developed solely for the purpose of busting the swath of child abusers and child-pornography consumers who peddle their filth online.

Created by Microsoft Research and further developed by Dartmouth College digital-imaging expert Hany Farid, PhotoDNA can automatically identify infringing images, and has the ability to chug through massive amounts of data so quickly and accurately that it can effectively filter even the largest caches of online photos, reports The New York Times.

The need for such a technology has only increased as the Internet has expanded. In the 1980s, it was widely believed that the problem of child pornography distribution had all but disappeared. But then came the Internet, and with it a new era for child abusers and purveyors of child porn.

“Twenty years ago we thought this problem was virtually gone,” says Ernie Allen, president and CEO of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). “As wonderful and powerful as the Internet is, it has created an opportunity for people to network with others of like interest, and to access content in the privacy of their own homes that would have formerly put them at risk to acquire.”

Microsoft donated PhotoDNA to NCMEC, which currently sorts through 250,000 images per week to determine which pictures are illegal, and which are not. Allen says PhotoDNA will help filter out the bad images far more quickly, and help put an end to this particularly disturbing black market.

“Our goal is to stop that victimization,” says Allen. “Using PhotoDNA, we will be able to match those images, working with online service providers around the country, so we can stop the redistribution of the photos.”

PhotoDNA is based upon a technology called “robust hashing,” which is able to analyze and record the unique characteristics of each digital image, similar to fingerprint technology for humans. Once identified, each images is then assigned a unique “hash,” or code. It can even identify images after they have been cropped or otherwise altered. The information can then be used to sort out child pornography, specifically images that feature children under 12-years-old, from perfectly-legal adult pornography.

Currently, Facbook relies upon users to alert the company to illegal images on the site. With the implementation of PhotoDNA, however, such tagging will no longer be necessary. Facebook will announce its adoption of PhotoDNA later Thursday, and hold an event on Friday to further explain the initiative. The hope is that other technology companies will see the benefits of PhotoDNA, and get on board.

The Obsolete Man

There are times when the only way that what I want to say is through someone elses words. At this time in my life, those words come from he pen of Rod Serling, and through the lips of Burgess Merideth and Fritz Weaver.

The episode is "The Obsolete Man." It was broadcast on "The Twilight Zone" June 2, 1962.

In a future totalitarian state, Romney Wordsworth (Burgess Meredith) is a man put on trial for the crime of being "obsolete". His occupation as a librarian is a crime punishable by death, as the State has eliminated literacy. He also believes in God, also punishable by death, as the State has declared that there are no Gods. He is prosecuted by the Chancellor (Fritz Weaver), who announces in front of the assembled court that Wordsworth, in not being an asset to the State, shall be liquidated.

After being convicted, Wordsworth is allowed to choose his method of execution. He cryptically requests that he be granted a personal assassin to whom he may privately disclose his preferred method of execution. He also requests that his execution be televised. Both requests are granted by the court.

We have always had ways to, shall we say, assign humans. Thoughts, faiths, beliefs, all controlled not by a government, but by society's unprinted rule. Ther are many ways that it is done, by suspicion ("Are you conservative/liberal/black/white/Christian enough?"), the leading question, the assumption that you must be A in order to be B. And when subtlety does not work, the time honoured methods of shunning, the boycott, ridicule. Then imprisonment. And when all else fails, death.

This story is a cautioionary one. Imagine what may happen if a small number of people truly wanted to go their own path, and not the path of the mob. We are coming dangerously close to that mob rule when, if your thoughts, action, life, faith do not meet specifics, death would be the only remedy. And, as the tale above shows, some who advocate that may very well become its victims.

It has been said that those who do not learn from history are bound to repeat it. It is my sad duty to report that not only are we on the way to repetition, we may add to it. Live, in living color. And in high-definition.

Injustice?

Examine the following:

EXHIBIT A: A two-year-old boy was badly beaten six months ago in New Ulm. The child suffered three broken ribs, a broken leg, a broken hand and severe bruising over most of his body.
The man accused of beating the child is Rian Butcher. Butcher cared for the boy while his mother was at work. He entered an Alford Plea to the court last week. That means he believes there is enough evidence that would probably lead a jury to convict him, but he is not admitting guilt.

A Brown County judge sentenced Butcher to 210 days in jail, five years probation and a three-thousand dollar fine. If he violates probation, Butcher could serve a 15-month prison term.

He has a lengthy history of criminal convictions for violent acts against women and children. The grandparents of the two-year-old boy were outraged by the sentence. Dave Hatch told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS that his family does not think the Brown County Attorney's Office did its job. Prosecutors say they did not think they had enough evidence to gain a felony conviction with a five-year prison term and that's why they accepted the plea.

The judge in the case, told family members that because of the plea arrangement and the lesser charges, his hands were tied and this was the toughest penalty he could hand out under the law.

Cassandra B. Davis, 33, pleaded guilty last month in Tippecanoe Superior Court 2 to battery on a child resulting in serious bodily injury, a Class D felony; residential entry, a Class D felony; and invasion of privacy, a Class A misdemeanor.

Davis, who formerly went by her maiden name, Cassandra Robinson, is the biological mother of Aiyana Gauvin, a 4-year-old Lafayette girl who died in March 2005 following months of abuse by her stepmother, Michelle Gauvin, and biological father, Christian Gauvin.

Former Parkview Christian School teacher Carrie Perkins pleaded guilty Monday to multiple counts of sodomy and rape for sexual relations she had with a teenage student.

Perkins, 30, pleaded guilty to three counts of rape second degree and three counts of sodomy second degree in Eufaula Circuit Court. She originally faced six counts each of rape and sodomy, according to Circuit Clerk David Nix.

Perkins was sentenced to 15 years for each count – split with three years to serve for each count. Those sentences will run concurrently with the 14-year sentence she received in Houston County approximately six weeks ago.

Perkins, who was a fifth grade teacher at Parkview Christian School, had a relationship with a 15-year-old PCS student. According to a Eufaula Police Department incident report that was filed last May, the student stated that he and Perkins had sexual relations four or five times since the start of 2010.

ELK GROVE— An Elk Grove coach facing charges for his sexual involvement with a 16-year old now has some neighbors discussing California’s age of consent.

Currently, you must be 18 years old to have sex with an adult. California is among a handful of states to make eighteen the official age of consent. In other states, the age is 16 or 17. Parents say the age needs to stay high because kids have no idea what an older person’s intentions could be. During sex the teen might think it’s love, but the adult only wants one thing.

“Because there’s generational gaps, vast differences between a 36-year-old and a 15- or 14-year-old.” Matt Upton says he talked to his daughters early to make them think twice before having sex until they were older than 18. Matt says it’s a combination of good parenting and luck, that saved his daughters from hooking up with older men, but he’s also thankful for the California law.

“I think California should enforce stronger laws against predators of young people.” Nilda Valmores runs "My Sister’s House", a safe haven for helping women in need. She’s seen a number of teens who fall for that older guy and they say the same thing, they thought it was love.

“Yeah, and it can get even worse if the young girl continues to have sex with the older man. He could take over her finances, control her emotions or even make her perform sexual acts with others...and she'll do it because she's brainwashed,” says Valmores.

The concern isn’t just for young girls, it applies to young boys as well, just as likely to be manipulated by people old enough to know better.

California, by the way, is one of a few states in which the age of consent for male-female sex is the same if you are gay. In some states, the age of consent if the parties involved are the same gender is much lower than 18.

This is an occurance when two people related to each other fine themselves attracted to each other in a sexual or romantic way. Many people feel that its just a dressed-up term for incest, but others say it is a bit more complicated than that.

Let me preface this story by saying this is NOT the about the woman who breastfed her dad to save his life. This is an entirely different tale of father/daughter relations starring Penny Lawrence (28) and her long lost, dad, Gary Ryan (46). When all of her family members had passed away, abandoned daughter, Penny Lawrence, wanted to search for her last living relative—the dad she never knew. Her search led her from Ireland to Texas where she found her estranged father, Gary Ryan. The pair felt an immediate and powerful sexual attraction. Scientists call this phenomenon Genetic Sexual Attraction, which describes feelings of attraction between close blood relatives who meet for the first time as adults. It’s theorized that it happens because of our penchant to be attracted to mates who resemble us. Palm Beach New Times: Nan Rich...the wrong crusade?

To think this started with a dead goat.

This came across mt desk this morning from the Huffington Post:

As longtime readers of Eat The Press know, the state of Florida has
struggled in recent years to pass a law that will make bestiality illegal. The
saga began in January of 2008, when the raping and killing of a goat -- a
beloved family pet -- shocked the sensibilities of Florida residents. This led
to a second shock when everyone realized that the rape of the goat wasn't
actually a prosecutable offense in Florida.

"There needs to be a law,"
declared state Sen. Nan Rich (D), who probably didn't realize at the time that
enacting such a law would prove to be nigh-impossible or that she'd become known
as America's top anti-bestiality lawmaker. Rich led two attempts to pass such a
law, but those efforts came to naught. There's good news, though: Rich and her
colleagues are taking another run at it..

Twice before, the Florida
Senate has taken the matter to this point, and unfortunately, twice before,
Rich's bill has foundered in the House. Last May, it seemed like this law was
all set for enactment, but the wheels came off for a number of reasons, the
first being that "the outrageous nature of the subject it sought to address
actually worked against it":

Comes to find out that Rich (D-FL) is a state senator who replaced Debbie Wasserrman Schultz whem the latter became a member of the US Congress. She seems to be a moderate who refused to "refused to tell citizens where he/she stands on any of the issues addressed in the 2010 Political Courage Test, despite repeated requests from Vote Smart, national media, and prominent political leaders." Maybe they didn't ask her how she felt about humping a goat.

Rich has been at this for some time. In 2009, the Palm Beach New Times (on of those artsy-fartsy Weeklies) asked a person who has researched all this was their any validity to claims that right Rich made about this...like dog-humping could lead to kid-humping. The answer was surprising:

State Senator Nan Rich has made waves with her crusade to make it illegal in Florida to have sex with animals. Not just around her Sunrise district, either. The controversy has earned Rich a future berth on Comedy Central's Daily Show.

Anxious, perhaps, about being accused of exploiting a saucy subject for headlines, Rich has sought to link her bill with the ever-popular cause of preventing child sex crimes. Earlier this month, she was quoted in the Sun-Sentinel:

"There's a tremendous correlation between sexually deviant behavior and crimes
against children and crimes against animals."

In remarks quoted by the AP, Rich elaborated.

"Lock people up that commit these kinds of heinous crimes, otherwise you're
leaving a person out on the streets that, if they commit sexually deviant acts
in one area, it's been proven that they do in the other," Rich said.

I asked one of the world's leading researchers on bestiality, Dr. Hani Miletski, about Rich's claim of a "tremendous correlation" between sex with animals and sex with children. "I think it's real bullshit," says Miletski.

"There's no connection that we know of. And if you said this to 'Zoos' -- as
they call themselves -- they would be so offended. Because they take precautions
to make sure they don't have sex with an animal that is not mature."

The condition of having a sexual and emotional connection with an animal is called "zoophilia." Miletski conducted a study in which she interviewed 82 men and 11 women, all zoophiles. Aside from an intense attraction to animals, says Miletski, "I couldn't find anything that said 'All zoos are this way or that way.'" She said they come from all walks of life and don't even seem to share a childhood experience that could possibly explain how they became zoophiles.

But it's not even purely sexual. And for the human at least, it's not rape. "They really love the animals," says Miletski, "to the point where they want to marry them and treat them as spouses." A German researcher in the field, Dr. Andrea Beetz, found that many of her research subjects belong to animal protection groups. Rich says she's leading the charge on this bill based on her desire to protect animals.

In making her case publicly, Rich has cited an episode in the panhandle town of Mossy Head in which a man was suspected of choking a goat to death while having sex with it.

Florida is one of only 16 states to have not yet outlawed bestiality, but Miletski says its only the tail-end of modern legislative trend. Since she began researching the subject in the late Nineties, she says that at least a dozen states have put these laws on their books.

I asked Miletski whether there was a correlation between sex with animals and any kind of deviant behavior. "No," she said."The two just don't go together." A person with anti-social personality, she allowed, "may have sex with everything -- including animals," but that's not the same as zoophilia.

Rich's bill looks to have clear sailing through the legislature -- what legislator would possibly defend a group as marginalized as zoophiles? To Miletski, it's a shame. "People have this reaction to (bestiality) -- 'It's crazy. It's sex. It's out there.' And people can't get their mind around it, so in order sooth their anxiety they pass a law against it."

Ultimately, she doesn't think there's anything to be gained by making sex with animals a crime. "I don't think it should be illegal," said Miletski. "I think they should let people do what they want to do as long as they don't hurt anybody."

Witch Hunts

In the 55 years of my life, I have been given the opportunity to meet people whose lives would probably run counter to what many of you feel would be "acceptable." They run from the mild to the extreme. but in most cases they are not the people you would think to be the outlaws you were thinking.

I have met teachers, technicians, police officers, lawyers, pastors, sports figures, actors and actresses...people from all walks of life who had one thing in common....their sexual lives would probably earn them space time on a burning stake.

So in this rant I just want to run off a few things to you. If you are an "outlaw," you will know what I say when I talk about it. If you feel you are, on the other hand, a "fine, upstanding citizen," just know how close that "outlaw" is to you. Could be your neighbor. Your kid's tutor. Your priest. Your spouse/partner.

It could ever be YOU......though you are in denial.

Among the things that angered me was an article concerning Rose McGowan's appearance on Law And Order:Los Angeles as a woman caught up in the seedy underground world of swinging.

Seedy??? Funny, I have been around swingers for about 20 years. Let me tell you about some of these "seedy" characters. One is a teacher, with tenure. Another cares for a special needs daughter and her ailing parents. Many are parents themselves. There's more seediness in both sides if Congress.

The anti-sex attitude of America is nauseating to me. Many times, I wonder how things would be different if just admit how we REALLY feel about sex to ourselves. That we may be more "depraved" than we admit.

Many of you have no idea what is going on. Yes there is the occasional child sex ring that is broken up, but in many cases those who are caught leave hundreds, maybe thousands who are not....maybe some who are reading this now. What you may not know is that Your Federal Government is using your fear of kiddies doing the horizontal bop to sneak into YOUR computer...

Democrat and Republican lawmakers are busily creating a House bill that
will mandate Internet service providers to keep computer records -- including
identification information -- of users to be used by federal law enforcement
agencies during their child pornography investigations,

According to the
Federal Bureau of Investigation, if the bill is passed in both houses of
Congress and signed into law by President Barack Obama, it will help FBI agents
investigating child-pornography cases.

While proponents of the bill
claim there is bipartisan support for such a law, opponents say it is an attempt
by big government politicians to "backdoor their way to controlling the Internet
and those who use it," said political strategist Mike Baker.

House
Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) is expected to introduce a
draft of the bill in April. He stated that his legislation will
require Internet service firms to maintain records of users’ Internet Protocol,
or IP, addresses for a mandatory period of at least 24 months.

Child protection organizations and some law enforcement
executives groups applaud the effort to help identify suspects. However,
civil-rights proponents such as the American Civil Liberties Union claim such a
measure would infringe on citizens' right to privacy and create a cyber Big
Brother culture on the worldwide web.

But the sexual witch hunts do not stop there. Recently there was a study about "underage prostitution" targeting sites like Craigslist and Backpage. As you can see in the story...it was based on junk science. Another witch hunt:

And we stand for this because we are not honest with ourselves when it comes to sex. Or our kids.

And what we find if we are honest is that the things we feared we may not have needed to fear all along.

The words are Genetic Sexual Attraction. Or GSA. Get used to that. You will be hearing that one a lot in the next 10 years. In fact, GSA may very well be the next taboo after homosexuality/bisexuality that gets to be smashed to smithereens.

Case in point:

Ryan, 46, and his long-lost daughter Penny Lawrence, 28, who met last year when

with his family to the US when he was two. He made Lawrence’s mother Angela
pregnant when he was 18 but left her before their baby, Penny, was born.

Angela died when Penny was four and her maternal grandparents, who
raised her, died when she was 18. Lawrence said she became “obsessed” with
finding her only remaining close blood relative, her father. Last March she
tracked him down to Houston, Texas and after several daily phonecalls, flew
there from LA to surprise him.

Ryan said that the pair felt an instant
physical attraction when they met, and soon began an incestuous sexual
relationship. Lawrence is now pregnant with his child.

By the way, the ultra scans show no hint of birth defects. And if the the tests are the same in the next 3 months, Garry and Penny will go ahead with the pregnancy.

Then there are the very kiddies we're trying to protect. Sorry, too late. The Durex condom folks did their own study. The found the average age of people losing their virginity was 16. The average.

And I can go on and on and on....but you get the point. How we feel about all this, and what we really are are two different things. And those have to be reconciled.

Thing is that reconciliation maybe be forced upon us. Just as Rock Hudson's battle with AIDS/HIV forced us to confront how we feel about homosexuality, revelations by those such as MacKenzie Phillips may have us starting to think more about GSA. The maturing of the American (and global) teenager may have us thinking second thoughts about the concept of consent.

And in those revelations, the witch hunts will continue. Truth is never something people feel comfortable about, especially sex. Dozens of people disappear from sites such as Yahoo, facebook, and twitter daily because maybe their sexual appetites may offend the average villager.

Yet these things continue to facinate us beyond belief. We said we were revolted by the bizzare accusations leveled at the McMartin Seven. Yet we were glued to the set by every charge...to the point that these seven were responsibile for over 300 separate abusings in a one year period.

Then there's Mary Kay Latourneau, the 34-year-old teacher who had an affair with her then-12-year-young student, Vili Fualaau. Sick! Twisted! She's a monster! And we kept staring at the screen, drinking in every juicy morsel, though two jailings and a couple of kids.

Oh, by the way, those who were hoping she would be on the rocks by now will be dissapointed....Mary Kay and Vili are a happily married couple, hosting "Hot For Teacher" nights at Seattle nightclubs. She's 49, he's almost 30.

And at this point, the less said about JonBenet Ramsey and that set-up, the better.

Oh, there is one more I was hesistant to mention. But I'll put it this way. We who love our animals in a "normal" way would cringe if we knew some people would use them for other purposes. A gentleman named Doug Spink comes to mind. But then there's this particular case of a pitbull named Mel:

On this night, like many other nights, Mel was waiting for his owners to take him outside, but he couldn't alert them with a bark. He doesn't bark. He won't bark. The bark has been beaten out of him.

Every time the 4-year-old dog meets a stranger, he goes into convulsions. He staggers back into a wall for protection. He lowers his face and tries to hide. New faces are not new friends, but old terrors.

As a matter of fact, one could say that Los Angeles is safer, based that site crime indices.

Those numbers are based on FBI figures. In terms of property crimes, LA is lower than Phoenix, rating a 4 and 7 respectively (national average is 4). In terms of violent crimes (murder, rape, etc), both LA and Phoenix rate a 7 (national average 4). In other words, Phoenix is not a safe place to be.

So you would think that the city's sheriff, tabbed the toughest cop in America, would think that murderers, rapists and thieves would be his prime concern. No, no, no! It's........DOG-HUMPERS! That's right...DOG-HUMPERS...right here in River City!!

America’s self-described toughest sheriff has issued a warning to the CEO of
Craigslist saying the popular Internet website is providing a “mechanism to
facilitate criminal activity.”

Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s warning to Jim
Buckmaster follows the arrest last month in Arizona by Maricopa County Sheriff's
Office detectives of two men — one a middle school teacher and the other a
handyman — on charges of conspiracy to commit bestiality.

Sheriff Arpaio
said an undercover investigation by his office began after detectives became
aware that persons in the Phoenix area were using Craigslist to engage in
illegal acts with animals. Detectives set up meetings through computer
communications where the suspects believed they were meeting animal owners at a
hotel.

“I would hope that Mr. Buckmaster takes my advice seriously and
looks into our concerns,” Sheriff Arpaio said. “I think it is sad that people
would utilize technology to take advantage of animals like this.”

Although bestiality may not be illegal in other states, the sheriff was
instrumental in making the offense a crime in Arizona in 2006.

Craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster is taking heat for postings on his
website. (Associated Press)Craigslist did not respond to questions sent by
e-mail to the company and to its public relations spokeswoman.

The men
arrested in February — handyman Keith Kiefer, 47, of Mesa, and middle school
music teacher Patrick Trejo, 25, of Phoenix — were accused of using
Craigslist.org to connect with dog owners offering their dogs for sexual
gratification with humans.

Sheriff Arpaio said his deputies later
learned that a number of people used the website to communicate with others who
had an interest in bestiality. He said detectives discovered that a secret
language was being used to hide the suspects’ plans.

According to court
documents, a detective posing as a dog owner responded to a posting Mr. Kiefer
listed on Craigslist. They exchanged e-mails in which Mr. Kiefer allegedly asked
for a photo of the male dog’s sexual organ. He received it and responded by
saying he “liked it very much,” the court records show.

In his letter to
Craigslist, Sheriff Arpaio said the investigation of “several others” was
ongoing and that the website had provided “the forum for these individuals to
post, in a very blatant manner, their intentions.”

Now, in my small circle of friends, the opinions about stuff like this ranges from "Man..that's sick!" to "Man....my Pomeranian was the BOMB last night!!" Therefore I cannot judge. Nor, since I do not have any pictures iof Mssrs. Keifer and Trejo, I do not know the level of desperation with these men (though one would probably argue that looking like a 2-legged emu might be a reason..)

Here's the thing. I know that those who thing something like doing-the-dog is highly disgusting claim that the pooch in question has no say in the matter. Oh. really? Then maybe we should also book all the people who force dogs (and cats, and other furries) to do non-sexual acts that the animals have no consent over (have you seen Letterman's Stupid Pet Tricks? Or even the stupider ones that wind up on, what a friend would call Screw-Tube?)

Again, I am not advocating anything, except keeping me safe. If Candy Sue wants to do the horizontal bop with her German Shepard, be my guess. I'm just worrying about the guy trying to climb into my house to steal my 50-inch Plasma TV.

MY suggestion to Mr. Arapaio would be to start actually arresting some real bad guys (and stop blaming it all on Mexican drug lords and the ACLU. We should legalize everything and make it here anyway, and as for those tree-hugging lawyers, the fact that prisons these days are obscenly overcrowded shows that the ACLU ain't quite that effective).

But maybe I can understand where Big Joe comes from. First, he was worrying that his wife migh leave him for some black stud. Then for some other woman. NOW he has to worry about Rover. Maybe it's all just insecurity.

Netflix Vying for First Rights to New TV Series

Netflix is trying to buy Internet streaming rights to a
26-episode drama starring Kevin Spacy before the
series is shown on a television network.

If the deal is completed, it would mark a bold step in
a new direction for Netflix's popular video
subscription service. The more than 20,000 titles in
Netflix Inc.'s streaming library primarily consist of
previously aired TV series and older movies.

The talks were reported earlier by Deadline.com. A
person familiar with the negotiations on Wednesday
confirmed Netflix's interest in the series "House of
Cards." The person spoke on condition of anonymity
because a deal hasn't been reached.

Should it win rights to "House of Cards," Netflix
would emerge as an even more serious threat to pay-
TV channels such as HBO. Netflix has 20 million
subscribers.

There have been a lot of "manifestos" floating around the internet lately. Lot or arguments and snarkiness based not on fact but on one's imagined point of view.

To be honest I have tried to put out what I know is the truth. But very few people listened. Or understood.

So I may be stepping down my efforts on line...just posting the occasional link. To be honest I cannot "debate" based on hatred. I can only go by what I see.

But before I go, I think, once and for all, I should be clear on what I believe. I must warn you, some of what is in my head may be troublesome for you. If, though, you look at it all with a open mind and clarity, you will see that I do have a point.

I'm not holding my breath on that, though.

Barack Obama is not the greatest President we have ever had. But he is not the worst either.
Sarah Palin is smarter than most of you. So is Rachel Maddow.
We are broke. Yet no one, Democrat or Republican, has the balls to do what needs to be done. What needs to be done would be an instant death wish. And I am not talking politically.

Take a look at this chart from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities in a report entitled "Critics Still Wrong on What’s Driving Deficits in Coming Years: Economic Downturn, Financial Rescues, and Bush-Era Policies Drive the Numbers."

Now note something. The things OBAMA did (TARP, etc) took up a rather small part of the defecit. If you also notice, Bush's wars (Iraq, Afaganistan...both inherited by Bush), though noticeable, do not make the majority of the shortfall.

The real villians are THE BUSH TAX CUTS. Of the projected 1.9 trillion dollar shortfall, those cuts take up as much as 8 trillion of that.

Eight. Trillion. Dollars.

So, once and for all....it is NOT Barack Obama that got us in this mess. It's US. Our refusal to pay the bill that got us here. Not to mention our GOP/Tea Party enablers.

The Charlie Sheen Interview

By now you have heard the excerpts from Charlie Sheen's rant over his wife, his employers, etc., on the Alex Jones program. What we are posting is pretty much the fill interview gathered from Alex Jones' YouTube files.

First...some updates.

In the interview, Sheen talked about his doing "Major Leauge 3." Morgan Creek, who is doing tthe sequel, said via its CEO James Robinson, that Charlie would have to "streighten up" (read conform) before he starts filming.

Suzanne Somers was thrown to the curb on "Three's Company," but they kept on for three seasons with two replacements not as good.

So you are telling me that CBS, Chuck Lorre, and Warner Bros. couldn't just write around Charlie for 6 weeks and find and new actor??

Oh...and remember Shennen Doherty? She was kicked off TWO series. Not only did 90210 and Charmed go on without her, she STILL owns a chunk of Charmed.

So guys, I know you are pissed at Charlie. But should you be even more pissed that CBS, your producer and your studio don't think you have the chops to keep a show going? Huh?

Recently, with all of the violence in Egypt, Glenn beck has been doubling down on his rather apocolyptic predictions on what might happen. For instance, in this recent screed from his radio show he says this:

Now, then, Chris Matthews, a few days ago on Hardball, said that he had never seen anything like that said on TV. You must live in a different part of the country. For every Sunday for years, itenerant preachers have been putting out predictions of Armageddon starting in Egypt.

Here is Jack Van Impe from his Sunday morning program. A program 12 YEARS AGO..

Now I have been saying for some time that the Tea Party movement...the REAL Tea Party movement, was inspired not by people like Sarah Palin, but by people like Van Impe who have preached that these are the "Last Days" as predicted in Revelations, and that those who are with the Lord (specifically those who are straight, white, asexual, and conservative) have a duty to eliminate certain heathen from the earth to please the coming savior.

More fuel to this fire has been placed by the predictions of one religeous radio station owner that Last Day could come in 14 weeks.

So with a date set (MAY 21st), some of those apocolyptic visions that Glenn Beck has been having might just come true...but they won't be from the left. It would be from the very teabagging, flag waving, Islam-hating, Xian warriors who hang on every word of Beck's and his cohorts on FoxNews, and in places like World Net Daily.

We haven't seen anything yet.

This may be my last blog for awhile.

I wish life were as simple or miraculous as many have claimed, but as my life has proven time and time again, for some there is a block in moving forward. It usually happens when you are (I am) at that point when the light is at the tunnel. Then the door is slammed shut.

Maybe it is punishment for my life, my choices, my beliefs. Maybe its bad karma that just happens to last for 56 years. Maybe at 57, I will have a miracle. Doesn't look like it now, though.

The problem is that some nice person stole my phone. For you maybe it's a matter of calling the company and getting a new one. But I lost my job three months ago. My new business is at a point where it is just starting to find some results, but without that phone progress is stopped and my life is essentially over. This is not an exaggeration.

I keep reading about the luck that people have. The homeless guy with the golden voice. The grandma who one $190 million. I know the whine "about good things happen to everyone but me." And a promised that I would not whine. Maybe take my punishment like a man.

Now I am NOT going to slit my wrists or jump from a building or other ways of doing oneself in. So please no intervention on that score. There will be light at the end of the tunnel, but I will have to have something happen before things get incredible worse.

Now if you want to help me, I have set up a chip-in to help out. Anything $20 or more can help if you can.

To those who know what I am going through, please know that I am not and will not give up. I do have plans for the short time I still have on this planet and I indend to work hard to get there. Those who know me best know how hard I can work. But unless something happens soon, that may never happen.

Since a part of this involves communicating with my extended family on Yahoo, facebook, and Twitter, I may not be able to communicate with you after Saturday, but you are in my thoughts and prayers. And you know who you are.

An for those who can and do, any prayers would be helpful. Maybe God will plant and idea in my head and a miracle will happen.

The tragedy in Tuscon has given rise to a mindset that certain media personalities have sparked a new anger in America that is resulting in Congresswomen, judges, and 9-year-old girls being killed at supermarkets around the country.

We go to December 19, 1994. Sarah Palin was still on the Wasila, AK city council, and Glenn Beck was still spinning the hits at KC101 in New Haven, CT. So they couldn't have caused this.

There are people, long before even this, who have declared war on their own country. They continue their sporadic assualts, in part, because America would rather fight well-known straw dogs, than fight their neighborhood butcher who may also be plotting a violent overthrow.

Being Cute is NOT Awareness

This weekend, many folks on Facebook asked their fellows to change their avatars to reflect some of their favorite cartoon characters from their childhood. The point was one of those "raising awareness" things where people tie a ribbon or wear a button to "raise awareness" of something that probably was actually staring them in their faces anyway.

Now do not get me wrong, I understand the reasoning for this. And anything effective that would get people to stop this this madness I would greatly support. But here the operative word is effective. Subbing your picture for that of Penelope Pitstop may not be one.

But maybe showing EXACTLY what child abuse looks like might.

The young girl seen in the picture is young Evie Gamble, all of 23 months. According to KFOR-TV in Oklahoma City, this is what might have happened:

ENID, OK - An Oklahoma teen is arrested after confessing to severely beating a child. We first showed you graphic pictures of the little girl's injuries last week as police were searching for the person responsible. Tuesday authorities called several people back in for questioning and got a confession.

"The first step was finding out that yes she's going to be ok, and she's going to make a full recovery," Amanda Gamble said.

Twenty year old Gamble says she is taking things one step at a time after she found her 23 month old daughter, Evie, severely bruised and beaten nearly a week ago. She says she left the toddler with her boyfriend and a 17 year old babysitter. She says she did not check on the little girl until the next morning and found her daughter's head swollen and bruised.

"I backed up, and I started crying. I said 'Evie what happened?' and she pointed to her head and said 'Evie got owies,' and then she hugged me and then she said, 'Momma, are you ok?'" Gamble said.

Tuesday afternoon Enid police arrested the 17 year old sitter after calling several people back in for questioning. They say at first she told a couple of stories that did not add up before admitting she was the one who abused the little girl.

"She actually got mad at the kid because the kid wouldn't stay in bed," Enid Police Sgt. Dustin Albright said. "She was following the kid back through the kitchen and pushed her with both hands and caused her to fall face-first into the kitchen tile."

It is a story the babysitter's mother does not believe. She claims her daughter was threatened and made it up out of fear. She says her daughter just turned 17 and just became a mother herself five months ago.

"I think she's covering up for somebody," Carol Tunis said. "I really do not believe she put all those bruises on that baby."

It is a cover-up to some, but a tough realization for little Evie's mother.

"Be careful who you leave your kids with," she said. "Be careful who you trust."

The tragedy of what happened to Evie is that this happens every day. But maybe a bigger tragedy is the that Evie will live with those scars for the rest of her life. Others won't.

Dee Gilley of Rochester, NY is arrested for what many black parents call discipline: beating a kid with a belt AND an extension cord. This happened to Gilley's 9-year-old stepchild.

Once in awhile, there are convictions: Paul Johnson of Knoxville, TN will be in jail for life for killing an 18-month old boy. However in most cases, if there is a conviction, actions that would be considered torture by Amnesty International are ignored.

What is not needed is a trip down Saturday Morning Memory Lane. What IS needed is to look the problem straight in the eye and deal with it. And soon....a child is being beaten in this country right now.

Last night, Keith Olbermann hit his usuall Special Comment home run, offering in startling 20-minute detail about the Tea Bag express that is about to run over this country like a 18-wheeler going at 100mph with no brakes.....downhill.

Before you vote on Tuesday, listen to this fully. Then I have a few words to say to you...

Yes we have the power to do more than that. And it is that power that I fear more than anything in this election. Because for people like Angle and Paul and the other teabaggers to invade our Capitol it will take the knowing participation of voters. Olbermann comes closer to anyone in putting the responsibility squarely on where it belongs...not just those who stay home and not vote, but those who go out and do so.

The Mason-Dixon poll on this weekend before the End of America shows Sharron Angle AHEAD of Harry Reid by at least 4 points. The Bluegrass Poll in KY shows Paul with a commanding lead over his opponent. and Stephen Broden....then man who said that armed revolution was on the table....is within striking distance of his opponent. If that's not bad enough, the woman whose ignorance and past loopy statements have been comedy gold for the likes of Bill Maher, Christine O'Donnell.....a woman who was supposed to be crushed by her opponent Chris Coons.....is now within striking distance of said opponent.

If these and other loons win on Tuesday, the fault will not be with Fox News, or Glenn Beck, or the persuasive powers of Sarah Palin, or the avalanche of money that has been bestowed upon the bagger candidates. The fault will lie solely on an electorate in each state who refuses to check facts or listen anything that even pretends to offer reason. Like the Germans in the 30's, this disaster will happen with the willing participation of citizens who actually agree with this shit.

And because of this, we MUST hold voters in these states accountable for their votes. Their punishment must be of shunning. If Nevada and Arizona and other states do not realize what they have done, they should be shunned until they do.

Mr. Olbermann, as always, is a master of language, but sometimes the words must come from the source. As the community of America seems hellbound to be, as the character he portays says, an "insult to the world," here is Spencer Tracy, from the classic 60's film "Inherit the Wind," able assisted by Mssrs. Elliot Reid, Dick York,Fredrick March, and Harry Morgan. The words said nearly 50 years ago are haunting and damning in their prophetic nature....

A Saucer Of Loneliness

If she's dead, I thought, I'll never find her in this white flood of moonlight on the white sea, with the surf seething in and over the pale, pale sand like a great shampoo. Almost always, suicides who stab themselves or shoot themselves in the heart carefully bare their chests; the same strange impulse generally makes the sea-suicide go naked.

A little earlier, I thought, or later, and there would be shadows for the dunes and the breathing toss of the foam. Now the only real shadow is mine, a tiny thing just under me, but black enough to feed the blackness of the shadow of a blimp.

A little earlier, I thought, and I might have seen her plodding up the silver shore, seeking a place lonely enough to die in. A little later and my legs would rebel against this shuffling trot through sand, the maddening sand that could not hold and would not help a hurrying man.

My legs did give way then and I knelt suddenly, sobbing -- not for her; not yet -- just for air. There was such a rush about me: wing, and tangled spray, and colors upon colors and shades of colors that were not colors at all but shifts of white and silver. If light like that were sound, it would sound like the sea on sand, and if my ears were eyes, they would see such a light.

I crouched there, gasping in the swirl of it, and a flood struck me, shallow and swift, turning up and outward like flower petals where it touched my knees, then soaking me to the waist in its bubble and crash. I pressed my knuckles to my eyes so they would open again. The sea on my lips with the taste of tears and the whole white night shouted and wept aloud.

And there she was.

Her white shoulders were a taller curve in the sloping foam. She must have sensed me -- perhaps I yelled -- for she turned and saw me kneeling there. She put her fists to her temples and her face twisted, and she uttered a piercing wail of despair and fury, and then plunged seaward and sank.

I kicked off my shoes and ran into the breakers, shouting, hunting, grasping at flashes of white that turned to sea-salt and coldness in my fingers. I plunged right past her, and her body struck my side as a wave whipped my face and tumbled both of us. I gasped in solid water, opened my eyes beneath the surface and saw a greenish-white distorted moon hurtle as I spun. Then there was sucking sand under my feet again and my left hand was tangled in her hair.

The receding wave towed her away and for a moment she streamed out from my hand like steam from a whistle. In that moment I was sure she was dead, but as she settled to the sand, she fought and scrambled to her feet.

She hit my ear, wet, hard, and a huge, pointed pain lanced into my head. She pulled, she lunged away from me, and all the while my hand was caught in her hair. I couldn't have freed her if I had wanted to. She spun to me with the next wave, battered and clawed at me, and we went into deeper water.

"Don't...don't...I can't swim!" I shouted, so she clawed me again.

"Leave me alone," she shrieked. "Oh, dear God, why can't you leave" (said her fingernails) "me..." (said her snapping teeth) "alone!" (said her small, hard first).

So by her hair I pulled her head down tight to her white shoulder; and with the edge of my free hand I hit her neck twice. She floated again, and I brought her ashore.

I carried her to where a dune was between us and the sea's broad, noisy tongue, and the wind was above us somewhere. But the light was as bright. I rubbed her wrists and stroked her face and said, "It's all right," and, "There!" and some names I used to have for a dream I had long, long before I ever heard of her.

She lay still on her back with the breath hissing between her teeth, with her lips in a smile which her twisted-tight, wrinkle-sealed eyes made not a smile but a torture. She was well and conscious for many moments and still her breath hissed and her closed eyes twisted.

"Why couldn't you leave me alone?" she asked at last. She opened her eyes and looked at me. She had so much misery that there was no room for fear. She shut her eyes again and said, "You know who I am."

"I know," I said.

She began to cry.

I waited, and when she stopped crying, there were shadows among the dunes. A long time.

She said, "You don't know who I am. Nobody knows who I am."

I said, "It was in all the papers."

"That!" She opened her eyes slowly and her gaze traveled over my face, my shoulders, stopped at my mouth, touched my eyes for the briefest second. She curled her lips and turned away her head. "Nobody knows who I am."

I waited for her to move or speak, and finally I said, "Tell me."

"Who are you?" she asked, with her head still turned away.

"Someone who..."

"Well?"

"Not now, " I said. "Later, maybe."

She sat up suddenly and tried to hide herself. "Where are my clothes?"

"I didn't see them."

"Oh," she said. "I remember. I put them down and kicked sand over them, just where a dune would come and smooth them over, hide them as if they never were...I hate sand. I wanted to drown in the sand, but it wouldn't let me...You mustn't look at me!" she shouted. "I hate to have you looking at me!" She threw her head from side to side, seeking. "I can't stay here like this! What can I do? Where can I go?"

"Here," I said.

She let me help her up and then snatched her hand away, half turned from me. "Don't touch me. Get away from me."

"Here," I said again, and walked down the dune where it curved in the moonlight, tipped back into the wind and down and became not dune but beach. "Here," I pointed behind the dune.

At last she followed me. She peered over the dune where it was chest-high, and again where it was knee-high. "Back there?"

She nodded.

"I didn't see them."

"So dark..." She stepped over the low dune and into the aching black of those moon-shadows. She moved away cautiously, feeling tenderly with her feet, back to where the dune was higher. She sank down into the blackness and disappeared there. I sat on the sand in the light. "Stay away from me," she spat.

I rose and stepped back. Invisible in the shadows, she breathed, "Don't go away. " I waited, then saw her hand press out of the clean-cut shadows. "There," she said, "over there. In the dark. Just be a...stay away from me now...be a -- voice."

I did as she asked, and sat in the shadows perhaps six feet from her.

She told me about it. Not the way it was in the papers.

She was perhaps seventeen when it happened. She was in Central Park, in New York. It was too warm for such an early spring day, and the hammered brown slops had a dusting of green of precisely the consistency of that morning's hoarfrost on the rocks. But the frost was gone and the grass was brave and tempted some hundreds of pairs of feet from the asphalt and concrete to tread on it.

Hers were among them. The sprouting soil was a surprise to her feet, as the air was to her lungs. Her feet ceased to be shoes as she walked, her body was consciously more than clothes. It was the only kind of day which in itself can make a city-bred person raise his eyes. She did.

For a moment she felt separated from the life she lived, in which there was no fragrance, no silence, in which nothing ever quite fit nor was quite filled. In that moment the ordered disapproval of the buildings around the pallid park could not reach her; for two, three clean breaths it no longer mattered that the whole wide world really belongs to images projected on a screen; to gently groomed goddesses
in these steel-and-glass towers; that it belonged, in short, always, always to someone else.

So she raised her eyes, and there above her was the saucer. It was beautiful. It was golden, with a dusty finish like that of an unripe Concord grape. It made a faint sound, a chord composed of two tones and a blunted hiss like the wind in tall wheat. It was darting about like a swallow, soaring and dropping. It circled and dropped and hovered like a fish, shimmering. It was like all these living things, but with that beauty it had all the loveliness of things turned and burnished, measured, machined, and metrical.

At first she felt no astonishment, for this was so different from anything she had ever seen before that it had to be a trick of the eye, a false evaluation of size and speed and distance that in a moment would resolve itself into a sun-flash on an airplane or the lingering glare of a welding arc.

She looked away from it and abruptly realized that many other people saw it -- saw something -- too. People all around her had stopped moving and speaking and were craning upward. Around her was a glove of silent astonishment, and outside it, she was aware of the life-noise of the city, the hard breathing giant who never inhales.

She looked up again, and at last began to realize how large and how far away the saucer was. No: rather, how small and how very near it was. It was just the size of the largest circle she might make with her two hands, and it floated not quite eighteen inches over her head.

Fear came then. She drew back and raised a forearm, but the saucer simply hung there. She bent far sideways, twisted away, leaped forward, looked back and upward to see if she had escaped it. At first she couldn't see it; then as she looked up and up, there it was, close and gleaming, quivering and crooning, right over her head.

She bit her tongue.

From the corner of her eye, she saw a man cross himself. He did that because he saw me standing here with a halo over my head, she thought. And that was the greatest single thing that had ever happened to her. No one had ever looked at her and made a respectful gesture before, not once, not ever. Through terror, through panic and wonderment, the comfort of that thought nestled into her, to wait to be taken out and looked at again in lonely times.

The terror was uppermost now, however. She backed away, staring upward, stepping a ludicrous cakewalk. She should have collided with people. There were plenty of people there, gaping and craning, but she reached none. She spun around and discovered to her horror that she was the center of a pointing, pressing crowd. Its mosaic of eyes all bulged, and its inner circle braced its many legs to press back and away from her.

The saucer's gentle note deepened. It tilted, dropped an inch or so. Someone screamed, and the crowd broke away from her in all directions, milled about, and settled again in a new dynamic balance, a much larger ring, as more and more people raced to thicken it against the efforts of the inner circle to escape.

The saucer hummed and tilted, tilted....

She opened her mouth to scream, fell to her knees, and the saucer struck. It dropped against her forehead and clung there. It seemed almost to lift her. She came erect on her knees, made on effort to raise her hands against it, and then her arms stiffened down and back, her hands not reaching the ground. For perhaps a second and a half the saucer held her rigid, and then it passed a single ecstatic quiver to her body and dropped it. She plumped to the ground, the backs of her thighs heavy and painful on her heels and ankles.

The saucer dropped beside her, rolled once in a small circle, once just around its edge, and lay still. It lay still and dull and metallic, different and dead.

Hazily, she lay and gazed at the gray-shrouded blue of the good spring sky, and hazily she heard whistles.

And some tardy screams.

And a great stupid voice bellowing, "Give her air!" which made everyone press closer.

Then there wasn't so much sky because of the blue-clad bulk with its metal buttons and its leatherette notebook. "Okay, okay, what's happened here stand back fo’ gods sake."

And the widening ripples of observation, interpretation and comment: "It knocked her down." "Some guy knocked her down." "He knocked her down." "Some guy knocked her down and --" "Right in broad daylight this guy..." "The park's gettin’ to be..." onward and outward, the adulteration of fact until it was lost altogether because excitement is so much more important.

Somebody with a harder shoulder than the rest bullying close, a notebook here, too, a witnessing eye over it, ready to change "...a beautiful brunet..." to "an attractive brunet" for the afternoon editions, because "attractive" is as dowdy as any woman is allowed to get if she is a victim in the news.

The glittering shield and the florid face bending close: "You hurt bad, sister?" And the echoes, back and back through the crowd, "Hurt bad, hurt bad, badly injured, he beat the hell out of her, broad daylight..."

And still another man, slim and purposeful, tan gaberdine, cleft chin and beard-shadow: "Flyin' saucer, hm? Okay officer, I'll take over here."

"And who the hell might you be, takin' over?"

The flash of a brown leather wallet, a face so close behind that its chin was pressed into the gaverdine shoulder. The face said, awed; "FBI" and that rippled outward too. The policeman nodded -- the entire policeman nodded in one single bobbing genuflection.

"Get some help and clear this area," said the gaberdine.

"Yes, sir!" said the policeman.

"FBI, FBI" the crowd murmured, and there was more sky to look at above her. She sat up and there was glory in her face. "The saucer talked to me," she sang.

"You shut up, " said the gaberdine. "You'll have lots of chance to talk later."

"Yeah, sister," said the policeman. "My god, this mob could be full of Communists."

"You shut up, too," said the gaberdine.

Someone in the crowd told someone else a Communist beat up this girl, while someone else was saying she got beat up because she was a Communist.

She started to rise, but solicitous hands forced her down again. There were thirty police there by that time.

"I can walk," she said.

"Now, you just take it easy," they told her.

They put a stretcher down beside her and lifted her onto it and covered her with a big blanket.

"I can walk," she said as they carried her through the crowd.

A woman went white and turned away moaning, "Oh, my God, how awful!"

A small man with round eyes stared and stared at her and licked and licked his lips.

The ambulance. They slid her in. The gaberdine was already there.

A white-coated man with very clean hands: "How did it happen, miss?"

"No questions," said the gaberdine. "Security."

The hospital.

She said, "I got to get back to work."

"Take your clothes off," they told her.

She had a bedroom to herself then for the first time in her life. Whenever the door opened, she could see a policeman outside. It opened very often to admit the kind of civilians who were very polite to military people, and the kind of military people who were even more polite to certain civilians. She did not know what they all did nor what they wanted. Every single day they asked her four million five hundred thousand questions. Apparently they never talked to each other, because each of them asked her the same questions over and over.

"What is your name?"

"How old are you?"

"What year were you born?"

"What is your name?"

Sometimes they would push her down strange paths with their strange questions.

"Now, your uncle. Married a woman from Middle Europe did he? Where
in Middle Europe?"

"What clubs or fraternal organizations did you belong to? Ah! Now, about that Rinkeydinks gang on Sixty-third street. Who was really behind it?"

But over and over again, "What did you mean when you said the saucer
talked to you?"

And she would say, "It talked to me."

And they would say, "And it said --"

And she would shake her head.

There would be a lot of shouting ones, and then a lot of kind ones. No one had ever been so kind to her before, but she soon learned that no one was being kind to her. They were just getting her to relax, to think of other things, so they could suddenly shoot that question at her. "What do you mean it talked to you?"

Pretty soon it was just like Mom's or school or anyplace, and she used to sit with her mouth closed and let them yell. Once they sat her on a hard chair for hours and hours with a light in her eyes and let her get thirsty. Home, there was a transom over the bedroom door and Mom used to leave the kitchen light glaring through it all night, every night, so she wouldn't get the horrors. So the light didn't
bother her at all.

They took her out of the hospital and put her in jail. Some ways it was good. The food. The bed was all right, too. Through the window she could see lots of women exercising in the yard. It was explained to her that they all had much harder beds.

"You are a very important young lady, you know."

That was nice at first, but as usual, it turned out they didn't mean her at all. They kept working on her. Once they brought the saucer in to her. It was inside a big wooden crate with a padlock, and a steel box inside that with a Yale lock. It only weighed a couple of pounds, the saucer, but by the time they got it packed, it took two men to carry it and four men with guns to watch them.

They made her act out the whole thing just the way it happened, with some soldiers holding the saucer over her head. It wasn't the same. They'd cut a lot of shapes and pieces out of the saucer, and besides, it was that dead gray color. They asked her if she knew anything about that, and for once, she told them.

"It's empty now," she said.

The only one she would ever talk to was a little man with a fat belly who said to her the first time he was alone with her, "Listen, I think the way they've been treating you stinks. Now, get this: I have a job to do. My job is to find out why you won't tell what the saucer said. I don't want to know what it said and I'll never ask you. I don't even want you to tell me. Let's just find out why you're keeping it a secret."

Find out why she turned out to be hours of just talking about having pneumonia and the flower pot she made in second grade that Mom threw down the fire escape and getting left back in school and the dream about holding a wineglass in both hands and peeping over it at some man.

And one day she told him why she wouldn't say about the saucer, just the way it came to her: "Because it was talking to me, and it's nobody else's business."

She even told him about the man crossing himself that day. It was the only other thing she had of her own.

He was nice. He was the one who warned her about the trial. "I have no business saying this, but they're going to give you the full dress treatment. Judge and jury and all. You just say what you want to say, no less and no more, hear? And don't let 'em get your goat. You have a right to own something."

He got up and swore and left.

First a man came and talked to her for a long time about how maybe this Earth would be attacked from outer space by beings much stronger and cleverer than we were, and maybe she had the key to a defense. So she owed it to the whole world. And then even if Earth wasn't attacked, just think of what an advantage she might give this country over its enemies. Then he shook her finger in her face and said that what she was doing amounted to working for the enemies of her country. And he turned out to be the man defending her at the trial.

The jury found her guilty of contempt of court, and the judge recited a long list of penalties he could give her. He gave her one of them and suspended it. They put her back in jail for a few more days, and one fine day they turned her loose.

That was wonderful at first. She got a job in a restaurant, and a furnished room. She had been in the papers so much that Mom didn't want her back home. Mom was drunk most of the time and sometimes used to tear up the whole neighborhood, but all the same she had very special ideas about being respectable, and being in the papers all the time for spying was not her idea of being decent. So she put her maiden name on the mailbox downstairs and told her daughter not to live there anymore.

At the restaurant she met a man who asked her for a date. The first time. She spent every cent she had on a red handbag to go with her red shoes. They weren't the same shade, but anyway, they were both red. They went to the movies, and afterward he didn't try to kiss her or anything; he just tried to find out what the flying saucer told her. She didn't say anything. She went home and cried all night.

Then some men sat in a booth talking and they shut up and glared at her every time she came past. They spoke to her boss, and he came and told her that they were electronics engineers working for the government and they were afraid to talk shop while she was around --wasn't she some sort of spy or something? So she got fired.

Once she saw her name on a jukebox. She put in a nickel and punched the number, and the record was all about "the flyin' saucer came down one day, and taught her a brand-new way to play, and what it was I will not say, but she took me out of this world." And while she was listening to it, someone in the juke joint recognized her and called her by name. Four of them followed her home and she had to block the door shut.

Sometimes she'd be all right for months on end, and then someone would ask for a date. Three times out of five, she and the date were followed. Once the man she was with arrested the man who was tailing them. Twice the man who was tailing them arrested the man she was with. Five times out of five, the date would try to find out about the saucer. Sometimes she would go out with someone and pretend it was a real date, but she wasn't very good at it.

So she moved to the shore and got a job cleaning at night in offices and stores. There weren't many to clean, but that just meant there weren't many people to remember her face from the papers. Like clockwork, every eighteen months, some feature writer would drag it all out again in a magazine or a Sunday supplement; and every time anyone saw a headlight on a mountain or a light on a weather balloon, it had to be a flying saucer, and there had to be some tired quip about the saucer wanting to tell secrets. Then for two or three weeks she'd stay off the streets in the daytime.

Once she thought she had it whipped. People didn't want her, so she began reading. The novels were all right for a while until she found out that most of them were like the movies -- all about the pretty ones who really own the world. So she learned things -- animals, trees. A lousy little chipmunk caught in a wire fence hit her. The animals didn't want her. The trees didn't care.

Then she hit on the idea of the bottles. She got all the bottles she could and wrote on papers which she corked into the bottles. She'd tramp miles up and down the beaches and throw the bottles out as far as she could. She knew that if the right person found one, it would give that person the only thing in the world that would help. Those bottles kept her going for three solid years. Everyone's got to have a secret little something he does.

And at last the time came when it was no use anymore. You can go on trying to help someone who maybe exists; but soon you can't pretend there's such a person anymore. And that's it. The end.

"Are you cold?" I asked when she was through telling me.

The surf was quieter and the shadows longer.

"No," she answered from the shadows. Suddenly she said, "Did you think I was mad at you because you saw me without my clothes?"

"Why wouldn't you be?"

“You know, I don't care? I wouldn't have wanted...wanted you to see
me even in a ball gown or overalls. You can't cover up my carcass. It
shows; it's there whatever. I just didn't want you to see me. At all."

"Me, or anyone?"

She hesitated. "You."

I got up and stretched and walked a little, thinking, "Didn't the FBI try to stop you throwing those bottles?"

"Oh, sure. They spent I don't know how much taxpayers' money gathering 'em up. They still make a spot check every once in awhile. They're getting tired of it, though. All the writing in the bottles is the same." She laughed. I didn't know she could.

"What's funny?"

"All of 'em -- judges, jailers, jukeboxes -- people. Do you know it wouldn't have saved me a minute's trouble if I'd told 'em the whole thing at the very beginning?"

"No?"

"No. They wouldn't have believed me. What they wanted was a new weapon. Super-science from a super-race, to slap the hell out of the super-race if they ever got a chance, or out of our own if they don't. All those brains," she breathes, with more wonder than scorn, "all that brass. They think 'super-race' and it comes out 'super-science'. Don't they ever imagine a super-race has super-feelings, too -- super-laughter, maybe, or super-hunger?" She paused. "Isn't it time you asked me what the saucer said?"

"I'll tell you," I blurted.

"There is in certain living souls
a quality of loneliness unspeakable,
so great it must be shared
as company is shared by lesser beings.
Such a loneliness is mine; so know by this
that in immensity
there is one lonelier than you."

"Dear Jesus," she said devoutly, and began to weep. "And how is it addressed?"

"To the loneliest one..."

"How did you know?" she whispered.

"It's what you put in the bottles, isn't it?"

"Yes," she said. "Whenever it gets to be too much, that no one cares, that no one ever did...you throw a bottle into the sea, and out goes a part of your own loneliness. You sit and think of someone finding it...learning for the first time that the worst there is can be understood."

The moon was setting and the surf was hushed. We looked up and out to the stars. She said, "We don't know what loneliness is like. People thought the saucer was a saucer, but it wasn't. It was a bottle with a message inside. It had a bigger ocean to cross -- all of space -- and not much chance of finding anybody. Loneliness? We don't know loneliness."

When I could, I asked her why she had tried to kill herself.

"I've had it good," she said, "with what the saucer told me. I wanted to...pay back. I was bad enough to be helped; I had to know I was good enough to help. No one wants me? Fine. But don't tell me no one, anywhere, wants my help. I can't stand that."

I took a deep breath. "I found one of your bottles two years ago. I've been looking for you ever since. Tide charts, current tables, maps and...wandering. I heard some talk about you and the bottles hereabouts. Someone told me you'd quit doing it, you'd taken to wandering the dunes at night. I knew why. I ran all the way."

I needed another breath now. "I got a club foot. I think right, but the words don't come out of my mouth the way they're inside my head. I have this nose. I never had a woman. Nobody ever wanted to hire me to work where they'd have to look at me. You're beautiful," I said. "You're beautiful."

She said nothing, but it was as if a light came from her, more light and far less shadow than ever the practiced moon could cast. Among the many things it meant was that even to loneliness there is an end, for those who are lonely enough, long enough.

Some who are at a loose end will find it odd to wake up to a Labor Day weekend and discover that the Adult Section on Craigslist has been removed and that the link to it on the site's home page has been replaced with a black bar reading "censored."

Craigslist has long been the whipping boy for attorneys general seeking to control prostitution within their purview and perhaps also seeking to win the favor of certain members of their constituencies.

However, why the section should suddenly have been removed in such a dramatic way (the censorship is only active in the U.S.) is unclear.

The section was originally entitled Erotic Services. Its name was changed to reflect a new discipline, as, under pressure from attorneys general, Craigslist declared it would manually screen every ad in its newly named Adult Services section.

It is arguable whether the content of this new section truly changed. Some would say it was adult business as usual.

So, once again, it seems that the roving band of nomadic keepers of our morals, who I have not so lovingly portrayed as the "Prude Patrol," have struck another blow for keeping the Internet safe from the tiny tots and those whose thought processes would be violated by any frank discussion about....as the American Family ASSociation would say, "s-x."

Ever since I discovered the Internet in the early 90's, I have been amazed at how free it was. It has helped shaped my sexuality so that I am erudite pervert you see before you. I have been equally amazed at the vigor that many pressure groups like Donald Wildmon's AFA (whose antics I have lovingly chronicled on my various blogs over the years), and the most recent PornHarms, not to mention harpies such as Gail Dines and here Westboro-esque group Stop Porn Culture.

These people and groups, along with a unlinked network of individuals, who remind me of Esmarelda, the O-lan Jones character from Edward Scissorhands, who sees Satan in just about everything, and lives as a recluse, surrounded by pictures of Jesus, candles, and rosaries. Give Esme an HP desktop and a Road Runner account and she'd be perfect for this.

Now no one is saying that we should start offering, say, Hustler to 8 year-olds (though from what I have seen at the library, the little boogers are pretty able to find it on their own). But I am finding it increasingly difficult to talk honestly like adults, with adults, about adult things.

Every morning I go to facebook or Yahoo Pulse in fear that a friend of mine had been sucked into the vortex because someone clicked on the "abuse" link. Their crime: being a little bit (or in some cases a lot) more honest about sex than this country's castrated society will allow.

This, of course, is being done under the excuse of protecting the children. If that's the case, they're doing a piss-poor job of it. For instance, the Kaiser Family Foundation, in a study, found that, though there had been a slight decline, 47% of kids grade 9th thru 12 have had some sexual intercourse. It's worse, considering that, according to a separate CBS news poll,. 78% of parents didn't think their darling 13-17 year-olds were doing it. Beyond denial.

But we are talking about adults, here , are we. And some of us are tired of being treated like a five year old. You may not want to hear it, but some of us fuck. Many of us come. We have penises and vaginae, breasts and buttocks, and they are just as much a part of us as our noses. eyes, and legs. And we who are grown-up would like to talk about it like grown ups.

Some of us are also very spiritual. Christian, as a matter of fact...not the Xianity that as been hijacked by hucksters and itinerant ex-morning show jocks, but a true follwer of Him. And if the KJV IS the inspired word of the Lord, then he is, too, a perveyor of porn, for the Song of Solomon is as erotic as anything Anais Nin ever put down.

The problem is that the vermin that scour the net, seeking the filth they say they abhor (and if they did, they would not be seeking it out, now would they), are highly organized, in some cases very sophisticated, and have lots of pull. Lots. Let's face it...advertisers and social networks trying to link to major corporations do not want the "stigma" of sex. Ask California Gubernatorial candidate...and former e-bay CEO Meg Whitman.

And what is really maddening is that we who ARE pleasure-positive, we who are grown-ups, we who Do love SEX seem to be powerless. Or we seem to want to just blow it off because it is negative energy or some bullshit like that. even as they aim the bulldozers to push you into the ocean.

It is time that the adults start fighting back. We have to tell the facebooks and twitters that it's WE who power this boat (just ask Friendster and Multiply, whose sex purges have left them floundering as shadows of their former selves...and myspace, who's getting close). Tell the advertisers that we will only support those who support us. And remind them that there are more of us than there are of them.

Also, you should support sites like Our Porn, Ourselves, a resource from sex blogger Violet Blue that, according to the site, "aims to create an alternative and constructive conversation on the use of pornography by women, and in turn offer balance to the anti-porn feminist agenda." OPO had a page on facebook which was removed for content violations, though there was no nudity on the page. Soon after, PornHarms gloated about it removal on ITS facebook page.

We must start having the courage to ask those who run for public office to support policies that are non-erotophobic in nature (keeping abortion legal and supporting true marriage equality are simple ones, but beyond that, equality for polyamorists, legalizing sex work, and a realistic connection between sexuality and teenagers). What we may really need is what is developing in Australia. The Australian Sex Party, or ASP is a political organization dedicated to responsible sex-positivity.

The true bottom line is that the sex positive must no longer be docile. We must speak up or be muzzled. We must stand up and be counted. We must be aggressive. For if we are not, we will be forced to exist in a soulless, sexless, sanitized world where everything is forced underground and all of us must live lies.

You know. The good old days.

Hasta la vista! Reports are swirling that Hispanics in Arizona are fleeing the state before a controversial new immigration law goes into effect July 29.

The law, which has sparked a heated national debate, requires police officers to conduct routine traffic stops or other checks to ask people about their immigration status if there is "reasonable suspicion" they're in the country illegally.

Though precise numbers are not yet available, early anecdotal reports from local schools, businesses and residents indicate that Hispanics could be leaving in droves to avoid the law's impact, USA Today reported Wednesday.

Superintendent Jeffrey Smith of the Balsz Elementary School District, which is 75% Hispanic, said 70 students were pulled out of school following the law's passage April 23 and that parents said it was the reason they were leaving.

It is already having the desired effect. You see, we're not talking about Canadians or Europeans who might be in AZ illegally (about a quarter of a million Canadians alone are in this country undocumented). They want to get rid of the Hispanics.

The state's share of white, non-Latino residents slipped to 81 percent in 2009, down from 85 percent in 2000. So minorities made up nearly a fifth of Utah's population last year -- and a quarter of Salt Lake County's.

These latest minority estimates -- perhaps conservative, a leading state demographer says -- show a state continuing to look more like the nation of immigrants in which it rests, and where, in coming decades, a minority-majority population will recast how Americans define "minority."

Already the United States this year is, for the first time, experiencing more minority than white majority births, and Utah is about two generations behind but catching up, University of Utah demographer Pam Perlich said. The only way to stop the trend, she predicted, is to throw the state into a lasting economic slide.

But fear of Mexicans is just the tip of the iceberg. White, middle-aged, born-agains are seeing their entire world go up in flames.

Radio stations they've listened to for ages now are in Spanish or Asian languages. The local KFC may now be a El Pollo Loco. Gays are not only marrying, but those unions seem to be outlasting straight ones.

People in their 60's are looking and acting younger. Every sexual more seems to have been accpeted as normal except incest and bestiality, and they seem to be next. Sweet songs of love have been supplanted with hard-edged tunes about fellatio and mastrubation.

America is no longer feared. More laughed at than anything else. Christianity seems to be losing out to Islam, Buddism, and even Scientology. Nothing is as people think it's supposed to be.

And on top of that.......on top of all that.......this great country is being run by.....one of.....them.

One of.......THEM.

Is it any wonder why, despite one of the most organized efforts to drive someone off the airwaves I have seen since the Smothers Brothers in the mid 1960's, Glenn Beck continues to to attract more than 2.3 million people. And his advertisers are not the usual bunch either. Gold coin sellers preaching that the only currecy that will be allowed after The New Troubles will be gold. Survival food distributors. The type of clients usually found on small market, ultra-rightest, the-illuminati-are-coming-to-get-you tak shows.

And it's more than that. Beck's 9/12 movement has become, indeed, a politcal machine. A machine that is beyond the control of the traditional GOP or even the Tea Party's queen bee, Sarah Palin. It is the baggers who control THEM, not the other way around.

And they seem to be ready to die for their cause. And kill.

In my eternal quest to figure out why I am alone and unpartnered at 55 (as well as un-a lot of things), I ran across this article in June/July, 2010 edition of Esquire. It's called "How a Man Ages....or Should."

After reading the article, I mad a conscious decision. To keep from committing hari kari, I decided to list the things I have not done. Maybe that way, I can figure it out.

With no relation to what I should have done by what age....

I have never posted any pictures of me shotgunning beers, smoking joints, or passed out from some combination. Mainly because I never did any of those things. Ever.

I have never read On the Road, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Deliverance (no...never saw the movie, either) or the Naked and the Dead. Too busy reading the LA Times...when it WAS the LA Times.

I didn't know who the hell Leonard Cohen is. Nor do I understand why women come when he sings.

I have never had a Scotch neat or messy. Never had a Manhattan. Never been to Manhattan.

I never rented, owned, or was able to fit into a tux.

I never used quotes from Porky's, though I do believe that Kaki Hunter is one of movies most unheralded comediennes.

I have never downloaded anything from a legal music source because, quite frankly, its the same putrid dreck that SonyWarnerEMI has been selling to fools for years.

I have never seen American Idol. But then I remember when Ellen was less and icon and America's Best Friend and more funny and My Future Wife.

In fact, every woman I have ever fallen in love with turned out to be gay, or leaned that way. Right, Sandra B.?

I do not look like my father. I Shaved my head to make sure.

Oh, and did I mention being bisexual. And fat. And Male. These days if the first two don't disqualify you, the third by itself certainly will.

And if you still insist on blowing that ray of sunshine up my ass to tell me that I am not really pathetic, that my life has worth and that I should love myself and all that, here is the one thing that cinches it....

The Civil Rights Movement received an infusion of energy with a student sit-in at a Woolworth's store in Greensboro, North Carolina. On February 1, 1960, four students Ezell A. Blair Jr. (now known as Jibreel Khazan), David Richmond, Joseph McNeil, and Franklin McCain from North Carolina Agricultural & Technical College, an all-black college, sat down at the segregated lunch counter to protest Woolworth's policy of excluding African Americans. These protesters were encouraged to dress professionally, to sit quietly, and to occupy every other stool so that potential white sympathizers could join in. The sit-in soon inspired other sit-ins in Richmond, Virginia; Nashville, Tennessee; and Atlanta, Georgia. As students across the south began to "sit-in" at the lunch counters of a few of their local stores, local authority figures sometimes used brute force to physically escort the demonstrators from the lunch facilities.

The "sit-in" technique was not new—as far back as 1942, the Congress of Racial Equality sponsored sit-ins in Chicago, St. Louis in 1949 and Baltimore in 1952. In 1960 the technique succeeded in bringing national attention to the movement. The success of the Greensboro sit-in led to a rash of student campaigns throughout the South. Probably the best organized, most highly disciplined, the most immediately effective of these was in Nashville, Tennessee. By the end of 1960, the sit-ins had spread to every southern and border state and even to Nevada, Illinois, and Ohio.

Demonstrators focused not only on lunch counters but also on parks, beaches, libraries, theaters, museums, and other public places. Upon being arrested, student demonstrators made "jail-no-bail" pledges, to call attention to their cause and to reverse the cost of protest, thereby saddling their jailers with the financial burden of prison space and food.

In April, 1960 activists who had led these sit-ins held a conference at Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina that led to the formation of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). SNCC took these tactics of nonviolent confrontation further, to the freedom rides.

President Obama is used to hearing his name yelled angrily at conservative Tea Party protests. On Monday night, however, he faced hecklers at a more unlikely venue: a Democratic fundraiser in Los Angeles for California Sen. Barbara Boxer.

And yes, the hecklers were attacking the president from the left. "Repeal 'don't ask, don't tell'!" the protesters yelled, referring to the 1993 military policy that bans gays and lesbians from openly serving. Obama responded, "We are going to do that; hey, hold on a second, hold on a second."

The rest of the crowd then began chanting Obama's signature campaign chant: "Yes we can! Yes we can! Yes we can!" You can watch the outburst — and Obama's replies — here:

During the 2008 campaign, Obama repeatedly pledged to kill the controversial policy, and in January's State of the Union address, he reiterated that vow. But progress has been slow. The administration claims that's because a full repeal would require a separate bill in Congress repudiating the congressionally approved 1993 law — and it's been hard to work such a bill into an already overcrowded Capitol Hill agenda. In March, the Pentagon announced it was relaxing enforcement of the ban, to clear the path for eventual repeal.

Obama returned to the issue of repeal in his Monday speech. "When you've got an ally like Barbara Boxer and you've got an ally like me who are standing for the same thing, then you don't know exactly why you've got to holler, because we already hear you, all right," Obama remarked to applause. "I mean, it would have made more sense to holler that at the people who oppose it."

But the hollering didn't let up. "It's time for equality for all Americans," shouted one. Obama again stressed his opposition to the ban, and again said, "I don't know why you're hollering." The group broke into another "Yes we can!" chant.

Obama then sought to return to the event's main theme: Boxer's re-election. Sen. Boxer "didn't even vote for 'don't ask, don't tell' in the first place," the president noted. "So you know she's going to be in favor of repealing 'don't ask, don't tell.' "

We liberals as quite a sight sometimes. We get our person in, and we expect that INSTANTLY every single item on our wish list gets granted.

I mean did you really expect a man who says he is a devout Christian, a man who has been steadfastly apposed to gay marraige, to suddenly get out the executive order pad and order DADT as soon as he got into the White House? Even before he had a chance to unpack?

We seem to forget the reason why we have this stupid policy in the first place. President Clinton was all for allowing gays to serve openly, but Democrats and Republicans, unable to get past their erotophobia then as now, blocked him at every turn. DADT, as despicable as it is, was the only compromise left to him, and you're lucky to have that.

So as non-hetrosexuals, we have to ask one question, one not asked because we are so much about our rights and all.....why in the hell do you want to join a club that doesn't want you in the first place.

Think about it. You're serving openly. They don't want you. You're in combat. Who are they going to send out FIRST to get shot? Trust me, we black folk have been bullet fodder in the US Armed Forces for decades.

Give the man some time. It is a process, one that just started. If he has not done what you wanted, you can fire him on the first Tuesday in November 2012. In the meantime, the best thing you can do is if you are walking and approach a recruiting office, do yourself a favor. Keep walking.

Last week, Keith Olbermann began a series of features called "Fridays with Thurber." James Thurber, the iconclastic humorist/artist, was the favorite author of Keith's dad. And it was a story of Thurber's that Keith read as his father began that final journey.

On the first episode, Keith read a short take called "A Box to Hide In." I posted that story on Twitter, only it was read by the great raconteur Jean Shepard. The story held great meaning for me, because for the longest time I wanted a box to hide in.

Here is Mr. Olbermann's reading, with background on Thurber.

So when I heard that, it made me interested in Thurber's work. And then, popped a memory from my sordid past.

At a time when NBC's prime time offerings were run by people who had a bit more imagination....and courage (please renew Heroes)...the network put on something on Monday nights called My World and Welcome To It. Somebody must of thought that people may have been smart enough to understand Thurber...and it could be easier to swallow if it were placed in the form of a standard one-camera sitcom.

That person was Sheldon Leonard. The orginal embodiement of all things Damon Runyon, whose brilliance went so far as thing such as Make Room For Daddy, The Andy Griffith Show, and The Dick Van Dyke Show. In short..the man was a genius.

And the cast he assembled was prime: William Windom, a character actor of considerable range who, up until then, was know as the Mr. Morley to Inger Stevens' Farmer's Daughter. Joan Hotchkiss went on to play Oscar's GF on The Odd Couple, and Lisa Gerritsen went on to play the precocious daughter on The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
It lasted one glorious season.

Federal agents on Tuesday arrested and charged a man with threatening to kill Washington Sen. Patty Murray because he was angry about her vote in favor of the major health care legislation.

According to a criminal complaint, Charles A. Wilson, 64, of Selah, Wash., made threatening phone calls to Murray's office in Seattle from March 22, the day after Congress approved the health care law, to April 4. One recorded message said, "I want to kill you."

Wilson was charged with one count of threatening a federal official, which is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Murray is the fourth-ranking Democrat in the Senate and the highest-ranking woman in the majority leadership. Several lawmakers reported threats and vandalism after the bill passed.

"I hope you realize there's a target on your back now," Wilson said in a voice mail message on March 22, according to the complaint. "There are many people out there that want you dead." Another message said: "Kill the bill. Kill the senator, too."

The calls were made from a blocked telephone number, but officials said they obtained records showing the calls came from Wilson's home in Selah, about 110 miles southeast of Seattle.

In the complaint, Carolyn W. Woodbury, a special agent of the FBI, said harassing phone calls had been made to Murray's office over several months, but staff members had said the messages, often laced with expletives, had turned threatening.

Special Agent Frederick Gutt, a spokesman for the FBI in Seattle, said Wilson did not appear to have a criminal record and seemed to have acted on his own.

As this continues, one has to realize that this is more than a bunch of yahoos reacting to right-wing bloviators on Fox News. These people had declared war on what this country has become long before Rupert Murdoch ever set foot in this country.

This is why the day that Timothy McVeigh drove a fertilizer-filled truck into a goverment building and destroyed it is so significant. It was the opening shot in the war which mostly white, education and finacially challenged "patriots" hope will "return the country to them." A country where anyone who skin is darker than theirs would be a third-class citizen. Lesbians would only be good for driving UPS trucks, gay men would only do interior decorationg, blacks and Latinos would do our heavy work...all without complaint...and at the end of the day, say "yessim," and quietly dissapear into the woodwork. Where sex does not exist, and the pnly faith would be that based on a bizarre interpretation of the Holy Bible that seemed less like the Sermon on the Mount, and more like "Clash Of The Titans." In 3-D.

Until we realize that these people are not the creations of Fox News or large corporations, that the reason they are massing is that their worst fear has been realized....a non-submissive Black President....until we realize that, we will not be able to stop them.

Sometime ago, I mentioned......with some regret....the decision of the American Family ASSociation, headed by our good friend, Rev. Donald "NoNeck" Wildmon, had decided to end its boycott of PepsiCo, Inc because, based on the "Action Alert" the sent out, Pepsi was the latest to capitulate to the insane demands of this homophobic group.

American Family Association (AFA) has suspended its boycott of PepsiCo. After monitoring the company for several months, AFA is satisfied the company has withdrawn its major financial contributions to gay activist groups.

AFA launched a boycott of PepsiCo after the company made $500,000 donations to Human Rights Campaign (HRC) and Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) in 2008. Records from PepsiCo, HRC and PFLAG indicate repeat donations did not occur in 2009.

AFA President Tim Wildmon said more than 500,000 people signed the Boycott PepsiCo Pledge.

Wildmon said a few minor issues remain, and AFA will continue to bring these to the attention of PepsiCo. “We feel we have made our point," he said. "Boycotts have been a last resort for us at AFA, and the PepsiCo boycott was started to address issues of concern to us – especially the promotion of the homosexual agenda in the culture. AFA will continue to challenge major U.S. companies to remain neutral in the culture wars rather than to use their resources to promote controversial issues.”

PepsiCo reportedly donated over $75 million to various causes last year, but now one group is charging that the soft-drink giant has been funding the cause of undermining biblical faith.

Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays & Gays, known as PFOX, a national non-profit group that advocates for former homosexuals, is demanding the company reveal its standards for charitable giving after the group discovered a Pepsi-supported organization urging protests against religious gatherings that contend God can help people leave the homosexual lifestyle.

PFOX alleges that PepsiCo is the leading corporate sponsor of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, Inc., whose recent publication, a Faith Field Guide, urges PFLAG members to protest against religious conferences that feature formerly homosexual speakers.

The guidebook labels the "ex-gay" conferences as "anti-gay," and prompts the protests "to remind people that there is more than one faith message."

PFOX questions, however, why a soft-drink company that has declared itself to be "committed to diversity and inclusion without imposition of personal judgment" would exclusively back one side of a theological debate.

"Why does PepsiCo fund organizations like PFLAG, which issue religious publications urging readers to undermine other religions with which PFLAG disagrees?" asked Regina Griggs, executive director of PFOX, in a statement. "Is this the best use of PepsiCo funding?"

As WND has reported, PepsiCo, – which produces Pepsi soft drinks, Gatorade, Frito-Lay snacks, Quaker oats and other foods – regularly donates to homosexual groups, sponsored a float in 35th annual Lesbian and Gay Pride Parade in New York and boasts 160,000 employees represented by its lesbian, "gay", bisexual and transgender resource group.

First off baggers, it's not "gay"...its gay. It's not so-called.

You'd probably call Black people Negroes if you had the shot...

The company's website even boasts its perfect rating on the 2009 Corporate Equality Index, a scale created by the homosexual advocacy giant Human Rights Campaign, measuring companies with policies beneficial toward homosexuals.

But when one of the world's largest food distributors, with 2009 retail revenues hitting $108 billion, starts using its financial muscle to undermine religion, PFOX contends, PepsiCo's homosexual advocacy has gone too far.

P-FLAG, if you ever bothered to check their website, promotes humanity among those who are not hetrosexual. Providing health services and emotional support, WITHOUT BEING JUDGMENTAL. Advocating action against hate crimes, which for some reason I think you would support. Offering love..which works...instead of "repairative therapy"....which does not...

The PFLAG Faith Field Guide specifically states, "When something happens in your community that is anti-LGBT and has a faith angle, consider organizing a response. A perfect example of this is Love Won Out. Love Won Out (LWO) is a traveling conference run by the anti-gay group Focus on the Family.

"Often people in the community will feel intimidated or hurt by just the presence and negative press that conferences like LWO bring," the guide continues. "Reminding them that there are supportive people in the community who are willing to listen is important for counteracting the message of change promoted by LWO."
The guide then goes on to describe how to plan press releases and protests surrounding the appearance of a formerly homosexual speaker.

"Why does PepsiCo continue to fund organizations which hate the ex-gay community?" asked Griggs. "PepsiCo's actions adversely affect its public image, goodwill and stock value."

Pepsi's public image is spotless, as opposed to the right's public image, which has been taking many hits as of late.

As for its stock value, note: AFA started it's botycott of PepsiCo in January 2009. It did fall to a low of 46.6 on the NYSE in March. But since then, PEP (Pepsico's stock symbol) has been on a steady uptick, closing the day I am typing this at 66.68. You can check.

Also it helps that a lot of "Sodomites" drink Pepsi.

PFOX is working with MoxyVote.com to enable PepsiCo shareholders to voice their protest and demand accountability from the company.

"The PepsiCo Shareholder Proposal No. 4," Griggs explains, "asks PepsiCo to divulge its standards for funding and account for how the Company's charitable contributions are actually used, a reasonable request."

I have not heard Keith Olbermann's Special Comment of last night, Feb, 24th, past the words "My father asked me to kill him."

I knew that, from listening to the parts of the program of last night leading up to that part, that my admiration for the man now goes beyond what I had for him. How he was able to show up for work last night at all was amazing.

Theodore Olbermann is dying. As a man who lost his own father not too long ago, I can only imagine what Keith is going through. Tonight, he will not be hosting Countdown. One thinks it won't be for a long time.

Now I was raised to believe that if a person is going through hard times, even if that person was someone you loathed, you offered prayers and good wishes. I have often critisized Laura Ingraham, for example, for her being slightly to the right of a certian Hun. But in 2005, Ingraham was diagnosed with breast cancer. You could find no one at that time rooting harder for her. (By the way, as I wrote this she is surviving, and I am happy to see her healthy and happy. Meaning I can go back to calling her the InGraham Cracker again)

Keith Olbermann rakes muck, and sometimes the muck gets thrown back at him. He is used to it. But at a time like this, when a man who just lost his mom could be hours away from losing his dad, one would think that people on the opposition would honor that man's grief, both current and future.

And I am sure that even Bill O'Reilly and Glenn Beck would honor that.

But as I have often said, it is not the media, it is us.

In an article recapping Olbermann's emotional comment about health care and how all of this is coming down at a time in which he is dealing with the health care system in the most tragic way, among the well wishes and notes of sincere sympathy cam some of the most vile sayings one can think of. They were matched, and in some cases, exceeded, by the verbal vomit spewed by the vermin posing as posters on http://www.freerepublic.com. Here are some highlghts:

Yes, Olbermann and Cheney and Bush and Obama...all of them and all of us are human. People who are born, grow-up, live and existence...if not a life...and, eventually die. Humans who deserve laughter in times of joy and comfort in times of sorrow.

These are people who are parents, like us, who would do anything to protect our children, even if they are in the public eye. People who celebrate the good times. And mourn when they suffer loss.

In 1943, The Kansan newspaper, The Emporia Gazette was then, as it is now, a Republican paper. Will White, its crusty editor was just as Republican. And he could not stand the policies of the President.

But when Roosevelt returned from the Casablanca Conference that was the beginning of the end for Hitler, White published these words, which two years later would serve as a eulogy for the man who was the thorn in the side of the Grand Old Party for 16 years...

WIldmon Watch: Pepsi Capitulates

Another sad chapter in the never-ending saga of one man's battle against common sense and decency.

For months, Rev. Donald Wildmon (affectionatly called "NoNeck" in these bloggings" and his American Family ASSociation have been ridig Pepsico because it committed the cardinal sin of actually giving money to GLBT-positive groups like Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG). The ordered a boycott of Pepsico products.

That meant I drank more Pepsi than I usually do.

But now it seems that Pepsi has, as many have, bowed-down to King No-Neck:

What else can be said? How do you fight ignorance when it seems that ignorance has become the rule of the day? When a country seems to accept the lie rather than the truth.

And where were the truth-tellers to fight this man. I seem to be the only person going after this false prophet. What...do you think just because a non-conservative is in the White House, turds like Wildmon should be ignored? By now, non-hetros should know that they do not truly have a friend in the White House (unless a certain Executive Order is being crafted as we speak, which we doubt.). Am I the only one who is exposing Donald and Tim Wildmon for the would-be Klansman that they are?

Take Roy Moore (or as we called him when he was Cheif Justice on the Alabama Supreme Court, Judge "Dolemite (because his name is similar to Dolemite's creator, Rudy RAY Moore)." This is the man who not only wanted to place a two-ton rock in front of the SCOAL front yard, but intemated in a anti-gay ruling that he was not that much against excecution of gays. This is the man who has founded The Foundation of Moral Law which seemingly thinks of the separation of chruch and state as an inconvienent joke.

Now, not only is this clown running for Governor of this state, and that he is rocking the TeaParty house at their functions, but his foundation is planning a rally this weekend, seemingly to support a second Southern split from the Union.

Now should one worry if Moore should wind up as Governor? Yes. He's not leading the polling....college chancellor Brad Byrne leads AL Republicans with 20% of folks willing to vote for him...Moore is a close second with 17%.

Add that to the fill-in-the-blank phobes populating the Tea Bag parties, plus the efforts of Wildmon and hsi bunch and things do not look good.

And unless the inetellegent not only step up defeats Wildmon and his ilk, kith, and kin, it will only get worse.

Glenn Beck on Joe Stack

Say what you will about Glenn Beck, but there is no doubt to anyone that the man is one hell of a communicator. As he breaks down the actions and motives of Joe Stack, the man who flew a plane into the building that held the Austin, TX offices of the Internal Revenue Service.

The one thing as you hear his monolouge that it does not matter what your ideology is or his. He killed innocent people and that is wrong.

What is interesting to me is that, he says that "you don't want 'these kind of people' around you..." Then explain this....

Not only were you around them last weekend, Mr. Beck, but you were their keynote speaker.

But let's stay with the first part of Beck's screed, which was right on. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR KILLING PEOPLE. This morning on Good Morning America, Stack's daughter said this:

AUSTIN, Texas -- The daughter of a man who crashed his small plane into a building housing offices of the Internal Revenue Service called her father a hero for his anti-government views but said his actions, which killed an IRS employee, were "inappropriate."

Joe Stack's adult daughter, Samantha Bell, spoke to ABC's "Good Morning America" from her home in Norway. Asked during a phone interview broadcast Monday if she considered her father a hero, she said: "Yes. Because now maybe people will listen."

Authorities say Stack, 53, targeted the IRS office building in Austin on Thursday, killing employee Vernon Hunter and himself, after posting a ranting manifesto against the agency and the government. He apparently set fire to his home before flying his plane into the office building.

Hunter's son, Ken Hunter, said he's alarmed by comments that the pilot was a hero.

"How can you call someone a hero who after he burns down his house, he gets into his plane ... and flies it into a building to kill people?" Hunter told ABC." "My dad Vernon did two tours of duty in Vietnam. My dad's a hero."

Bell said she offered her deepest condolences to Hunter's family. She said her father's last actions were wrong.

"But if nobody comes out and speaks up on behalf of injustice, then nothing will ever be accomplished," she told ABC. "But I do not agree with his last action with what he did. But I do agree about the government...."

In the note, signed "Joe Stack (1956-2010)" and dated Thursday, he said he slowly came to the conclusion that "violence not only is the answer, it is the only answer."

And some people on Facebook couldn't agree more.

The problem I am having is that there are people who are now at the end of their incdividual and collective ropes. There are some who are seeing the lifestyle they have lived for so long change. The President is different, the government is different. Traditions thay have held on to for centuries, some right...many wrong, are changing. Nothing seems to make sense. People find themselves out of date, or not compatable with the world around them.

Then there are others who have never fit in....wanting what the majority have, but what the majority say that can never have, believing if certain things are accepted, the Wrath Of God would decend upon them (though in many cases, some of those same members of the Majority are actually misfits in stealth).

They have done the things that people have said they should do. They voted. They got involved. They were good citizens.

All for nothing.

When people get desparate, they do desparate things.

Joe Stack was not the first. I fear he will not be the last.

Progressive talker removes Conservaties in Palm Springs

The long-awaited plan to move Oldies KDES-F/PALM SPRINGS west into the INLAND EMPIRE market has been approved by the FCC, meaning that several stations on the PALM SPRINGS radio dial will be changing TODAY (2/1).

ROY LAUGHLIN's LC MEDIA LP is buying and moving KDES-F to REDLANDS, reducing the station's power from 41,000 watts to 1.450 watts to enable the move to the more populous SAN BERNARDINO-RIVERSIDE area.

The move will be accompanied by several other changes, with the KDES format an calls moving to the 98.5 FM frequency occupied by R&R BROADCASTING Beautiful Music/Adult Standards KWXY. The KWXY format will move 1340 AM, with Talk KPTR-A moving to 1450 AM replacing Talk KGAM-A.
