Early this morning, the Senate made history and health reform cleared its most important hurdle yet -- garnering the 60 votes needed to move toward a final vote in that chamber later this week.
This marks the first time in our nation's history that comprehensive health reform has come to this point. And it appears that the American people will soon realize the genuine reform that offers security to those who have health insurance and affordable options to those who do not.
I'm grateful to Senator Harry Reid and every senator who's been working around the clock to make this happen. And I'm grateful to you, and every member of the Organizing for America community, for all the work you have done to make this progress possible.
After a nearly century-long struggle, we are now on the cusp of making health insurance reform a reality in the United States of America.
As with any legislation, compromise is part of the process. But I'm pleased that recently added provisions have made this landmark bill even stronger. Between the time when the bill passes and the time when the insurance exchanges get up and running, insurance companies that try to jack up their rates do so at their own peril. Those who hike their prices may be barred from selling plans on the exchanges.
And while insurance companies will be prevented from denying coverage on the basis of pre-existing conditions once the exchanges are open, in the meantime there will be a high-risk pool where people with pre-existing conditions can purchase affordable coverage.
A recent amendment has made these protections even stronger. Insurance companies will now be prohibited from denying coverage to children immediately after this bill passes. There's also explicit language in this bill that will protect a patient's choice of doctor. And small businesses will get additional assistance as well.
These protections are in addition to the ones we've been talking about for some time. No longer will insurance companies be able to drop your coverage if you become sick and no longer will you have to pay unlimited amounts out of your own pocket for treatments that you need.
Under this bill families will save on their premiums; businesses that would see their costs rise if we don't act will save money now and in the future. This bill will strengthen Medicare and extend the life of the program. Because it's paid for and gets rid of waste and inefficiency in our health care system, this will be the largest deficit reduction plan in over a decade.
Finally, this reform will extend coverage to more than 30 million Americans who don't have it.
These are not small changes. These are big changes. They're fundamental reforms. They will save money. They will save lives.
And your passion, your work, your organizing helped make all of this possible. Now it's time to finish the job.

Pastor Engle is the co-founder of something called the Call, a Pentacostal minstry that has gotten a lot of press lately, basically because of the Pastor's concerns about rampant ho-mo-sex-u-wal-lit-tee in America, as well as his concerns about all Americans getting health care. He's not for it.
But we are talking about Pastor Engle for one specific reason. If you have followed me on Twitter, you have seen me reference something I called Civil War II. The attempt by a group of uber-right, uber-xtian, and...in most cases..uber-Caucasian folks to try to "right this ship" an return this country to its true roots, where gays only were seen if the guy was decorating your living room and the woman was driving a truck, where your 7-Eleven was not assisted-managed by someone named Abdul, where women stayed home, kids stayed quiet, the only thing on TV was Leave It To Beaver.
Oh, and of course, the country was not run by a Negro.
I have said that these people were planning acts of violence. Some say I had gone over the edge, others just simply ignored me.
Now I have proof. Thank you Rachel Maddow.
This is from the 12.16.09 episode of Ms Maddow's MSNNNNNNBC program, part of a large discussion of the HCR debate gone looney, but I managed to clip this from that segment.
It is jawdropping...
Note Rachel's question....what's the step after this?
If you have followed the Tea Parties and the 9/12 projects for the last few months and you allowed your imaginations to go to their logical places, you may have figured out the answer.
God helps us.

And gays, Lesbians, bisexuals, and transgenders, as well as others who live outside of the so-called norms, found out last night in Maine and other states that if they could wipe them all out, the mob would.
Of course there are those who feel that. And those who still have humanity enough to fight that.
But after all of the marches and speeches and activism and over 2000 episodes of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, a neutered country is not responsive to those who scream, "We are human, too."
The same screams that Negroes in the south (what we call blacks or African-Americans today) that were echoed by Martin Luther King in February of 1963. But it was not the impassioned-but-peaceful oratory of Dr. King that got Americans to pass the Civil Rights Act of the following year. Not an act of peace, but an act that was marked as one of the most horrendous of that or any other time.
It was Bull Connor and the Dogs of Birmingham...
My question is this.....will it take an act this horrendous to force America to give non-hetrosexuals the same rights as hetros. Would Birmingham have to be played out all over again.?

Well dig this.....
It must have seemed so perfect. An obscure blogger unearths some pages of
President Obama's college thesis. The report supposedly comes from big-time
Klein of Time
magazine. And the thesis has some real gems: like Obama's
disdain for the Constitution.
The whole thing was nothing more than a satirical post on a humor
blog. But Rush
Limbaugh, who quoted from the supposed thesis on his radio show, sure wasn't
laughing. Here's how it went down.
An unknown blogger picked up on a made-up post meant as a joke, which
claimed that Joe Klein had gotten his hands on 10 pages of student Obama's
college thesis. Rush Limbaugh jumped on it, which immediately sparked Web
searches on "obama
Supposedly titled "Aristocracy Revisited," the excerpt revealed the
president had "doubts" about the "so-called founders." Juicy. Except not true.
Limbaugh discovered halfway through his show that he'd been had, but defended
himself by saying basically the thesis felt true. Listen in to Rush's mea
Joe Klein finally jumped in, and called the report "nonsense" on his Swampland
blog, and the blogger who thought the hoax was real also
Let's hope someone kept their sense of humor in all this. Still, for a
humble post to go from humor blog to major media outlet sure seems impressive.
Someone ought to write their thesis on it. For real. http://buzz.yahoo.com/buzzlog/93122?fp=1
In other words, Rush Limbaugh showed he DOES have the intellgence to run an NFL team (see Raiders, Lions, TVScreenBiggerThanGodInDallas, Packers[Farve].....)

As some of you know, I am a big fan of Britsh gameshows and I am blessed that YouTube exists (and that the UK networks lawyers are not that eager to prosecute).
This program, The Krypton Factor, is not for the timid. It is a series of mental and physical tests that take the brain to its limit.
It was tried twice in America, once with Dick Clark, and the other for kids with Eight is Enough star Willie Aames.
This version of the show just debuted in the UK.
BTW, Fox tried to get a version of this show on the air here. The pilot was never shown...I guess it would probably fry the brains of the audience of their news channel.

Now, forget estimates about who showed up....anywhere from 35K to 2 Million, depending on who you ask and who's side they're on. It was a lot of people, and that usually means cameras. But if you read this ad, you would think that FNC was the only outlet that covered what was essentially a publicity stunt for FNC's Glenn Beck and his 9/12 Project.
But what Fox is finding out is that you do not lie in a promo. Especially when one of the targets has under their hire on Rick Sanchez.
He's cute when he's pissed.
But it was not just CNN.......You said NBC did not missed the story......so what's this??
Here is coverage from CBS News, properly connecting the march to the "9/12 Project":
CBS also " said it had 'multiple crews' at the rally and made it the lead story on the "CBS Evening News." CBS Radio News offered hourly reports and CBSNews.com had the story in its rotating lead throughout the day" (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/09/18/ap/entertainment/main5321951.shtml?tag=contentMain;contentBody)
Oh....and talk about "missing the story?" Here is a ABC/GMA report ANTICIPATING that rally the day before: http://abcnews.go.com/video/playerIndex?id=8554528 And here is another ABC/GMA report the day after: http://abcnews.go.com/video/playerIndex?id=8560056.
Missed the story? You jackasses CREATED the God-damned story.
And not only created it....you egged it on! Here is a story from Media Matters. Notice the two videos. The one on top shows a producer egging on the sheep. The bottom shows the finished product. http://mediamatters.org/blog/200909180037
And I can go on. From the non-fact checking on that ACORN video that had the worker going BORAT on your asses, to the fact that you announced that the Pope was dead days before he really died, all the way to the Thursday after 9/11 when you boasted that there was a little pocket under that rubble where there were survivors, food, and water. In reality, no food, no water. No survivors.
In being a editorial cheerleader for the right, you have no equal. But as a news organization, you have no business calling yourselves journalists.

But there have been things that have caused me to back off. The caring of friends on and off line. And this:
Monday, Keith Olbermann declared war on Glenn Beck. After Beck's relentless hammering of Van Jones, which lead to his sneaking-Sally-down-the-alley resignation on Saturday night (supposedly to miss the bedtimes of the Sunday papers.....they still don't understand Twitter), Olbermann came on TV from 30 Rock with both guns blazing
But the difference between "us" and "them" is that "we" sometimes listen to common sense....or whatever passes for that. And on rare occasions....we actually heed:
A couple of things. It was weaved-around throughout Olbermann's monologue and interview, but the real ememies here are not Beck or Jones or Olbermann. It is the very zombies Olbermann talks about. These zombies....aka, the American people....believed all the bullshit about Obama being a Kenyan, a Marxist, a racist, possibly even the guy at NBC who ordered the death of Elle Bishop on Heroes. Of course he's none of those things, but they believed them. The zombies were looking for that Lone Voice In The Wilderness to actually speak The Truth as they knew it. First came Limbaugh, then O'Reilly. But Beck has combined showmanship and his ability to embarass himself to parlay it all into being the Great Leader of the RightieZombies.
The LeftieZombies, many of whom still think it's 1963, decided to stage a boycott and gave anyone whose ads wound up on Becks TV show an ultimatum: stop "supporting" beck or feel our wrath. Apparently the advertisers got the message, 60 have fled Beck's FOX show, though since the numbers came from Media Matters, you would think that count would be a bit high.
But two things the LeftieZombies forgot. (A) RightieZombies tend to rally around their martyrs. So as the number of advertisers leaving the show went up, so did the number of RightieZombies viewing: 2.5 million. And with that, those hawkers who left will quietly, sheepishly, return.
Then there's (B): The LZ's forgot one other thing: Beck's RADIO show. He reminds his zombies....and advertisers....that he has The Third Most Listened-To Program In America daily. So maybe that is why Wal-Mart publically opted out of Glenn's TV show....but Wal-Mart spots on Beck's RADIO show were heard last week.
My fear is that Zombies, once fed enough red meat, tend to stop following their leaders and go off on their own, even more voracious as before. And what Beck has started, he may not be able to stop. Because all it would take is one person...or a small group of people...who feel the only way to save America is to rid it of the one thing that is destroying it. Many of us know what THEY think is that one thing, but in truth, that one thing is.....US. Our phobias that we have allowed to eat away at our brains until we oppose anything that will advance the country physically, financially, sexually, morally. It is the mob...the people of America, by and large, which are its own worse enemies, destroying her from the inside.
Then there is one other thing...maybe related, maybe not. But note something that is said at the 8:24-8:37 spot of the youtube clip posted.
Yup, Glenn and Keith work in THE SAME BUILDING! As a matter of fact, I would assume a few NBC lawyers had a very nice talk with Glenn about saying he was broadcasting from Radio City, seeing that its an NBC trademark.
And Keith's battles with a certain King of the Falafels has definitely raised both their profiles, ratings, and amounts in their respective bank accounts. So it would not be out of question for Beck to think that he could benefit from such a situation.
And it would not be out of the question to imagine that on some Wednesday night in Rockefeller Center's Rainbow Room, two nattily dressed, sandy-haired gents....one chubby, the other taller and bespectacled, sitting in a corner, sipping on their respective Manhattans. And laughing hysterically about the individual groups of goobers they broadcast to on a nightly basis.
Keep away from the noose, Don................Keep away from the noose......

LOS ANGELES — "Family Guy" was uncensored for Emmy voters.
The cast of the bawdy popular animated Fox series performed a never-to-be-aired episode for members of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and the press on Wednesday evening at the Ricardo Montalban Theatre in Hollywood. The episode's topic du jour? Abortion.
"Not as bad as you think," said Seth MacFarlane, the husky toned "Family Guy" creator who serves as executive producer, writer and who also supplies numerous voices on the show, including bumbling Griffin family patriarch Peter, antagonistic toddler Stewie and talking dog Brian.
MacFarlane was joined on stage by fellow "Family Guy" voice actors John Viener, Danny Smith, Christine Lakin, Alec Sulkin, Mila Kunis and Alex Borstein. The actors read their lines in front of a live orchestra with MacFarlane and Borstein performing musical routines.

Now anyone who has followed my posts knows that Glenn, himself, has been known for some outrageous statements, but to an extent he does temper himeself a bit.
Such cannot be said about "Doc." This is a man who has won five Marconi awards. Many of my fellow Twitterers would love to know what the award committee was snorting at the time of nomination.
The reason I am going in to this is what "Doc" said this week about hate crime legislation.
And they will be condemned by thier words. From the July 8 edition of Premiere Radio Network's The Glenn Beck Program:
This from a man whose lisp sounds less from Virginia...and more from Fire Island.
A little education for you, Mr. Thompson:
9.8.08 Norwich, Conn. —
A trial is scheduled to start
today for the former Plainfield man charged with beating a man and dumping his
body into the Shetucket River in Norwich.
Timothy J. Cote, 39, is charged with attempted murder and first-degree
assault in the Sept. 28, 2007, attack of William Uzialko. At 1:39 a.m. that
morning, fishermen at Howard T. Brown Memorial Park heard a splash coming from
the area of the Laurel Hill bridge and saw a man, arms thrashing, float past
their fishing spot.
Responding police discovered a shoeless Uzialko floating in the river,
clinging to a chain behind a dock on the east side of Norwich Harbor. He was
semi-conscious and bleeding from his face and ears, police said.Police
interviewed people sleeping under the viaduct bridge behind the YMCA, a common
place for the homeless to drink and sleep. Cote and Robert Plummer were found
there sleeping. A pair of work books were found, along with blood and drag marks
leading to a wall that drops 30 feet into river. An “executive type desk chair,”
was found in the river directly below the wall.
6.18.09 EUGENE, Ore. -- Police arrested two
roommates in the murder of a homeless man whose bloody body was found not
far from a playground in a city park last month after one of the men allegedly
confessed to a friend who later called police.
Herbert Taylor Bishop, 56, also known by his street name "Pac-Man," was
murdered in the early morning hours of May 11.
His bloody body was found later that day not far from the waterfront
bike path and children's playground in Skinner Butte Park.
6.6.09 Belfast, Northern Ireland -- A homeless man was
stabbed to death on a street in Belfast today.
George Morrison, 29, was found lying in Brookhill Avenue in the north
of the city in the early hours of this morning.
A 46-year-old man has been arrested, police said. Detectives believe
there may have been a row before the attack at around 2.30am.
Local DUP MP Nigel Dodds said: ``It is shocking to hear that a man has
been killed in a knife attack in north Belfast.
``This is an appalling tragedy and our thoughts and prayers are with
the family of the deceased.
Shall I go on, Doc? Maybe I should.
6.30.09 MASTIC BEACH, N.Y. - Police on eastern Long
Island say they have arrested three people on aggravated harassment charges
after they kicked and hit a victim while uttering anti-gay remarks.
Authorities say 21-year-old Nora Mitzner and 25-year-old Lindsay McBeth and
20-year-old Selwyn Icangelo pleaded not guilty at their arraignments in First
District Court in Central
Islip on Tuesday. McBeth did not have an attorney and Mitzner was
represented by Legal Aid, which does not comment on pending cases. Icangelo's
attorney did not immediately return a call for comment.
6.29.09 NYC --A man visiting a friend on the upper East Side was robbed
pistol-whipped during Gay Pride weekend by a group of hoodlums yelling
anti-gay slurs, the victim and cops said Sunday.

men on E. 85th St. about 4 a.m.

One of the robbers

07.07.09 ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - For the third time in four
years and the second time in a month a cross-dressing man has been found dead on the streets of Albuquerque.
They are believed to be the victims of what police across America say is a growing hate crime: People born men, dressed as
women, and in all likelihood murdered because of that.
Janice Devereaux, the head of "Transgender New Mexico," believes Albuquerque is seeing that
“I think it's incredibly dangerous,” says Devereaux.
Police aren't sure why someone beat transgender Teri Benally to death last weekend.
Witnesses found Benally, 42, unconscious on Maple Street SE near Coal
Avenue. Benally died at a hospital.
“The individual may have been meeting somebody that they found online,”
Albuquerque Police Department spokesman John Walsh told KRQE News 13.
...and on and on.
We understand, "Doc," that you fancy yourself as a kind of humorist on your dailta afternoon show on WRVA. You do have to admire someone who feels that smashing someone' skull because they wear a dress instead of overalls is hilarious, or that stabbing someone in the back because he has lost everything is side-splitting.
Maybe Mr Thompson should betold exactly how much people appreciate his unique comic stylings.

No one would ever confused Fox News anchor Shepard Smith as a bleeding heart liberal. He, like most of the people who populate FNC, is a right of center as it gets.
But that does not mean that he, and others to the right, are not decent human beings. I think from time-to-time, some have to live up to thier image of bombast and leave the decency at home.
Shep has never been that type of guy. He wears his honesty on his sleeve. Liek the time he had to school Sean Hannity on what was really important in New Orleans a few days after the levees broke....
Which brings us to the torture memos recently released by the GWB adminstration. The revelation that this country ever had anything to do with "enhanced interrogation techniques" raised raised many a persons blood pressure in most places in this country...except at the HQ of Fox News. But it did trouble one man.
And that one man was asking the questions in a discussion of the memos on his Fox Report program:
Well said, but that was nothing compared to the outburst that happened on Fox's Stratagy Room, an online-only program. It is then that Smith really hit the ceiling.

First those uppity Californians, not content to take their losses and lay down like proper third-class psudo-humanbeings, are starting campaigns to repeal that Proposition 8 that the phobes so lovingly and tirelessly campaigned......and lied....to get passed.
But if that was not enough, the salons in Vermont (is that state still alive?) decided them kweers should get married. The REPUBLICAN Governor sought to veto that, but those libs in the VT senate had the NERVE to override them.

Let's listen shall we?
"I have two words for you this evening," (Tammy Bruce) warned listeners.
"Camille Cosby." The Tammy, as fans affectionately call her, then went
ballistic. In two hours of fire and brimstone, she ripped apart the essay line
by line, not only questioning Camille's sanity but wondering aloud about her
super-rich and powerful husband's sexual mores, referring to him as a
"philandering, impregnating friend of O.J. Simpson." While acknowledging that
she had no proof, she suggested that the revered Cosby, a friend of Simpson
lawyer Johnnie Cochran, may have secretly helped to fund the ex-football star's
murder defense. But most of her ire was aimed at Camille's assertion that the
27-year-old Ennis had been shot to death while changing a tire late at night
near a lonely stretch of Mulholland Drive because he was black. Bruce posited
that he was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time-while driving his
mother's $130,000 Mercedes-Benz. She then implied that the parents themselves
shared the blame. "I say to Mrs. Cosby first of all, if she's not in therapy she
needs to get some immediately. And how dare she!"
Former KFI-AM (640) overnight host Tammy Bruce, who last year came
under fire for critical remarks she made on the air about Bill and Camille
Cosby, has filed suit against the station and key personnel on charges that
include sex discrimination, discrimination due to sexual orientation, wrongful
termination, sexual harassment and slander.
Named as defendants in the lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior
Court, are Cox Radio-owned KFI, Program Director David G. Hall, General Manager
Howard Neal and nighttime host Phil Hendrie.
Neal, speaking for the station, said Thursday: "We can't comment." He
said he had not yet received a copy of the lawsuit.
In the 27-page suit, filed March 16, Bruce did not ask for a specific
dollar amount but says at several points that the damages she sustained are
"greatly in excess of $50,000." Her lawyer, Patricia Bellasalma, said Bruce
seeks compensation for "back pay, front pay, pain, suffering and emotional
Bruce, 36, who is openly gay and a former president of the Los
Angeles chapter of the National Organization for Women, was suspended by KFI
last July 10, following her July 8-9 broadcast that criticized the Cosbys and
prompted them to complain to management. Hall and Neal went on the air Aug. 19
and 20 to apologize for Bruce's remarks. Later, the station said that her
contract was not being renewed.
In her suit, Bruce charges that she was "disparately treated" in the
Cosby case, contending that KFI had neither suspended nor apologized for male
hosts who had been the subject of complaints or civil actions. She also charges
that, independent of and long before the Cosby controversy, she had complained
to Hall about derogatory remarks and harassment of her by various employees
regarding her sexual orientation. The behavior did not cease and constituted a
hostile work environment, the suit says--extending even to KFI's Web site, where
it says derogatory remarks were made about her even after she was no longer on
Among Bruce's charges is that Hendrie both made and attempted
unwanted physical contact with her at his wedding in July 1997, that thereafter
he called her a derogatory name when passing in the hallway, and that he used
other crude language about her sexual orientation on his program.
Reached at her home, Bruce said filing the suit was "an important thing
to do, not only for the unfairness that occurred directly in that environment
but because this is what I have stood for in all my activism, to encourage women
to stand up for themselves."

Did someone get to those judges yesterday? It seems pretty funny that the same court that gave gays the right to marry now seems hellbent (or is it heavenbent?) to strip it away? I know that the NeoXians who engineered this are capable of a level of threat and terrorizing that would equal Al Capone, but one has to wonder how far did they go in influencing the judges.
If H8 is upheld, what people do not know is that these NeoXians will not stop there. After finding a way neutralize non-hetrosexual permanently (short of execution, though I am sure it has crossed the minds of some), the will come after YOU. In thier not-so-public papers thet are talking up how living together increases divorce. Maybe they'd like to re-criminalize co-habitation? Maybe even criminalize divorce.
What H8 WILL say if uphelad is to tel three million or so people that they are no longer wanted around these parts. And other states, infected with the same religeous fervor, may join. We don't want you....and anyone who supports you can go.
Speaking of dis enfranchisement....
I know that the Neos have beem praying for some sort of uncivil upheaval for some time. Will a economic disaster that started in the Bush adminstration, and goot worse during thefirst months of the country's First Black President be the trigger? Already people like Limbaugh and the above-noted Beck seem to be sowing the seeds of it, half-heartedly sayin g that they really would love not to have this happen....but in thier innards they do. Oh God, how t hey do.
But what if all of these "Bubba's" who feel they had thier freedoms taken away had to deal with the aforementioned millions who actually did (see H8). Beck, you may get your civil wat, but the end may not be what you wanted.
Finally, some memos:
To my doctor: it great to know that your man is back in your arms. Now stop fretting about trivia like followers. Rest, enjoy your man. A more impotrtant fight is coming and we need you and any allies you have full strength.
Oh....you were only JOKING? I'm not.
Tim Kring, Bryan Fuller, Ben Silverman: re HEROES: STOP. THE. KILLING. NOW!! (PS: bring back Elle.)
Darren Bell, creator of Candorville: I love your strip...but the Vampire/wolf thing is jumping the shartk big time. Cut it out!
Randi Rhodes: Sober up and get back to work.
eHarmony.com: How many times do I have to tell you, I am 53, black, fat, bisexual, and poor. I do not fit your idea of compatablity with any woman (that includes any other dating site or social network either). Just stop.
Sarah Palin: for the love of God and the GOP, GROW SOME, WOMAN!!!
Belladonna, Ali Larter, Susan Block, Nina Hartley, Michell Obama: Can someone tell me how to mix these into the perfect woman?
Any single woman: Yes I'm begging. Yes, I'm that desperate. Yes, I'm that pathetic.

On Second Thought Radio
Fun, Feisty and FRESH! The Nancy Skinner Show meets America
where we voted in the last election. Nancy is a contemporary of President Obama.
She ran against the future President for his Illinois Senate seat. He endorsed
her Michigan congressional run. Talk about a direct line to The White House!
Nancy hosted a weekday show for 8 years on WLS-AM Chicago. For the past decade
Nancy has been a guest host and expert on: MSNBC, CNN, and FOX News. The
Nancy Skinner Show will air 3PM - 6PM (EST), Monday through Friday.
“It's great to be back on the airwaves after my forays into
politics. Losing to POTUS turns out to be pretty cool and since I am his biggest
fan, it's kinda like being on the "teams of rivals", only on radio. Turns out
that I'm back on the air in a very important time in our country's history and
I'm looking forward to a national conversation with Americans of all stripes.”
- Nancy Skinner
Mike Newcomb, MD is a former gubernatorial candidate
and physician who cares for the elderly and the poor. His brand of “freedom
fighting, liberty loving and truth telling” radio has taken Phoenix, AZ by
storm. After only his first year on the air Mike was selected as the “Best Radio
Talk-Show Host” in Phoenix. Doctor Mike has appeared nationally on MSNBC, C-SPAN
AND FOX News and has written opinion pieces for one of America’s largest
newspapers, The Arizona Republic. The Mike Newcomb Show will air from
6PM - 9PM (EST), Monday through Friday.
“Martin Luther King
once said, ““In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the
silence of our friends.”” With the On Second Thought Radio Network our friends
need not be silent anymore.”
- Mike Newcomb
Continuing on the
network will be America’s original “truth-seeker” Mike Malloy. The Mike
Malloy Show will continue to broadcast live Monday through Friday, from 9PM -
“Hey, Truthseekers, Just a quick note from your
humble and obedient (ha-ha) servant. I am pleased to let you know the Malloy
program continues. Same time, same station, same Web-cast, same satellite
availability. Nothing changes while everything does, as my tai chi instructor
says. Anyway, we're here and we'll continue with the most intense, factual,
hell-raising liberal talk in the nation. Keep it lit.”
- Mike Malloy
All mention of Randi Rhodes has been eliminated from the site.
Meanwhile, the network OST is replacing, NovaM, had filed for liquidation.
Nova M Radio Inc., a competitor to troubled radio network Air America, is filing
for bankruptcy liquidation, according to the company's co-founder, amid mounting
disarray in the small world of liberal talk radio.
Anita and Sheldon
Drobny, a married couple from Chicago, founded Nova M in 2006 and have been
funding the business partly out of their own pockets. Compounding their
troubles: Nova M's highest-profile host, Randi Rhodes, vanished from the
airwaves earlier this month. Mrs. Drobny also said that her husband is currently
hospitalized for problems stemming from the stress of dealing with the network,
which has 34 affiliates.
Nova M hired Ms. Rhodes last year after she
fell out with Air America, which is now run by Pendulum Media LLC. A person
familiar with the matter says that Nova M was supposed to have promised to cover
certain legal costs for Ms. Rhodes, who some herald as the liberal answer to
Rush Limbaugh. But she quit after discovering that her employment contract
didn't offer such indemnification.
A message on Ms. Rhodes's Web site
blames her disappearance on Nova M's failure to correct an unspecified problem
and says she is seeking a new home for her show. Ms. Rhodes's lawyer, Robert
Gaulin, blamed "technical problems." Anita Drobny says she can't discuss the
terms of Ms. Rhodes's contract.
Stations that aired Ms. Rhodes are left
scrambling. KKGN "Green 960" in San Francisco has found a replacement. But
programming director John Scott fumed in a posting on the station's Web site
that while conservative radio is organized, liberal radio is plagued by "drama,
inconsistency, miscommunication, ego and a trail of wreckage."
Rhodes has been replaced on station WJNO in West Palm Beach, Fla., by
conservative talk host Sean Hannity.
Ms. Rhodes left Air America last
year after she made inflammatory comments about Geraldine Ferraro and Hillary
Clinton during a stand-up comedy performance. Although Air America has found new
financial backers, it doesn't have the high profile its founders had hoped for.
The Drobnys, who helped get Air America off the ground, are no longer involved
with that company.
Nova M's other host, Mike Malloy, is switching to
another would-be Air America competitor: Phoenix-based start-up On Second
Thought Radio Network LLC. The backer of On Second Thought, Dr. Mike Newcomb,
who was involved with Nova M until last year, describes his new network as "talk
radio for independent minds." He plans to use former Nova M station KNUV in
Phoenix as his company's flagship.
Ms. Drobny says she and her husband
had poured their own money into Nova M, but the business became unsustainable
last fall. As advertising revenue plummeted, so did the Drobnys' personal
portfolio, making it impossible for them to keep supporting the company. Toward
the end, Nova M lost $100,000 a month. The financial stresses eventually
affected her husband's health, she says, leading to the breakdown that landed
him in the hospital.
"There were so many wealthy progressives out there
that could have made [progressive radio] happen," she said, but they didn't want
to help. "It ended up being on Sheldon's shoulders."
No word on the whereabouts of Ms. Rhodes.
Meanwhile, NeoCon stations are starting to be afraid that the loss of NovaM, and the troubles of Air America could intesify the call for the return of the "Fairness Doctrine." As they trumpeted the demise of NovaM, the website at WTMJ/Milwaulkee "warns:" "Fallout: Every time liberal fail in the marketplace, the push for the Fairness Doctrine intensifies." (http://www.620wtmj.com/shows/charliesykes/39748717.html)
Meanwhile, AAR may have suffered another blow as Thom Hartmann moves to Dial Global:
NEW YORK -- February 2, 2009: Dial Global and WYD Management have announced
an agreement under which Dial Global will provide advertising sales and
affiliate representation for The Thom Hartmann Show, beginning March 1. The show
airs from noon-3 p.m. ET and currently airs in Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas,
Detroit, and other markets.
"With the addition of Thom Hartmann, Dial Global solidifies its
position as the premier content provider of the very best progressive Talk
radio," said Dial Global SVP/GM, News/Talk Amy Bolton. "Dial Global now offers
12 hours of proven, winning progressive talk shows. We're delighted to work with
Thom and WYD."
WYD's Ron Hartenbaum said, "It is great to be reunited with so many
friends and former colleagues who are at Dial Global. In a tough economic
environment, we are pleased to be working with such an aggressive team on all
aspects of our business."
The hat trick would be for Dial Global to sign Randi Rhodes on, plus maybe take on Air America as a division. DG could consolidate all of thier progressive shows under the AAR banner, which still has high recognizably, and either offer AAR as a turn key network, or a ala carte programming menu.
Either way, the death of progressive radio is highly premature. What it needs is not the Fairness Doctrine, but, as I said yesterday, having financially solvent people committed to the format, AND good radio, AND good sales to start PURCHASING stations. When you OWN the stick that is power.
And that is the state of Progressive Radio today.

I mean, I thought Nova M made no sense, but ON SECOND THOUGHT????? C'mon guys. You need marketing people. BADLY!
Ok, here is as much as I know at this hour: Nova M folded this morning.
The line up is Nancy Skinner 3-6p ET, Mike Malloy 9-Mid ET, and some guy named Dr. Mike Newcomb. They also said that they would be expanding.
The website is now an OST overlay with many mentions of Randi Rhodes still on there (if this were Clear Channel or CBS, they would have been gone by 3am).
Here is the official statement from the night janitor who's now running Nova M/OST:
On Second Thought Radio Network has been formed to bring you Nancy Skinner,
Dr. Mike Newcomb, Mike Malloy and more to come!
Please continue to drop by as we change the site over and grow this NEW
LIBERAL NETWORK which is based, appropriately, in Phoenix. We will be honoring
all existing subscriptions from Nova M, and the old web addresses will continue
to work along with our NEW address which is;www.onsecondthought.net
An official press release detailing our future plans will be forthcoming
shortly. If you have any comments or suggestions please forward them to;
Chief Technical Officer
On Second Thought Radio Network
"Talk Radio for independent minds"
Meanwhile, the NeoGoons have been having a feild day with this:
"." The free market continues to be at work weeding out shows that most folks
don't want to listen to."-www.newsbusters.com
Well, NB, if that's the case ALL of talk radio should start worrying. I live in Los Angeles, Yakk Radio capitol of the USA. The new ratings just came out. ALL of the talk stations in the LA market had down books. ALL. OF. THEM.
Plus, when you add ALL informational programming (news and talk), you get about 13% of the market. Now if you are in marketing, that's great, but we're talking real people, so the question is: what are the other 87% listening to? Well, if you're not Spanish, you're probably listening to Old Steely Dan, Old BeeGees, or and enless loop if Britney Slut detailing what she's do to Amy when she finally finds her.
In other words guys, NOBODY'S LISTENING TO YOU!
Only us policy wonks who hang on every word that either Olberman or Limbuagh gives as shit. Everyone else is trying to get concert tickets.
And don't think the Fairness Doctrine will do you any good. It will kill talk radio, but not in the way the NeoGoons think. You see, as the Nova M situation has showed us, most radio management and programming people are, in essence, slugs. Thier main goal is to get out of as much work as possible. A fairness doctrine means work: filling out papers, making sure the FCC is happy, but most important, it means actually doing some real PROGRAMMING! BUt with a pop/country/oldies/anything but talk or news format, all you have to do is point the satellite in the general direction and play Briney/Keith Urban/Snoop Dog/Zepplin all day, and go back to chasing the receptionist.
If the Good Guys really want to make sure that Progressive Radio has a chance, they have to do the one thing they seem unwilling to do: BUY STATIONS. I'm not talking about leasing time, buying the damned stick, putting radio people in charhe instead of true believers, hire some sales people who bleed Zig Ziglar, and actually program a station people will listen too.
Its that simple.
Meanwhile, Randi Rhodes is in seculsion.
If progressive radio does go down because of this, you and the Drobny's will have a lot of 'spainin' to do, Loooo-cee.

The narrator warns that same-sex marriage in West Virginia is "a closer reality than you may think" and that gay activists are "working tirelessly to redefine marriage away from God's design to favor the desires of adults over the needs of children."
The ad, which targets Christian voters, calls for a constitutional amendment against same-sex marriage, something that's already in place in a majority of states. "A weekend trip to SF for a WV same-sex couple, plus a pro-bono ACLU attorney, could easily become a nightmare for marriage in West Virginia," says the narrator.
The liberal local site West Virginia Blue is particularly struck by the implication that "the gay agenda is apparently out to get us all in the form of a sniper scope targeting happy families who sit on their steps and entertain their children by blowing bubbles (seriously - it's at the one minute mark)."

Well, Tom, that you for not only creating another social ghetto for adults, especially those whose sexuality is a bit more advanced than, say, yours....but also RAPING them in the process.
Most of us barely have the money to access the damned net now, let alone cough up FIFTY F*CKING DOLLARS A MONTH! And trust me, Multiply, Yahoo, and others will be watching this to see how much they can kill us. And I do mean KILL....because this will FORCE you to Melba-toast your content....or you're gone.
And don't think places like erotic-community are any better. They don't believe in certain sexualities, lt alone having the standard-issue view of bisexuality (only for women, never for men).
As for me, I am done. I have a very small list of people and if I am kicked, I am not coming back. We can communicate for as long as possible until Bushbama decides its time we are a menace to national insecurity and spy on our phone calls and e-mails.
I told you for three years this sh*t was going to happen, no one listened...or thought I should lighten up
Now I am wondering how high the temperature will rise on you before you realize that you are a target.
(and this to a person who responded to this rant on Multiply that she would just cancel her groups on SocialGo...)
But then what? We still face the same problem.....people who's minds sexually are ahead of the curve either have to conform to the robots who run this planet.
When I first created Sybarite, I wanted to create a real-time network of people who, like me, had alternative views on sexuality (and other things). Eventually, I was hoping to create a real-time community of people of like mind.
And because I and others are honest about our passions, we are feared by the passionless. We are the ones we protect the young from, instead of being open with them and trusting them. We are the ones destroying society, yet more civilizations have been destroyed by violence and war than sex and passion.
We are the ones they fear, so they marginalize us, herd us in to "ghettos," and in some cases...such as SG, use the power of finance (and in some cases, our poverty), to force us to conform.
Well sorry, I don't feel like jumping your hoop, or conforming to your restricted standards. What you do not realize, erotophobes, is that a third and more complete sexual revolution has taken place. I have seen it come and develop for 25 years. It goes beyond Playboy and Larry Flynt. It goes beyond the acceptance of kink and BDSM as normal. It goes way beyond gay marriage. It is a challenging of many of the taboos we have created in the last few centuries.
In other words, anyone not falling into line should expect to be attacked...or ghetto-ized.
It is ironic that the British evangelical gave a quotation that pretty much sums up where I am on all this: "Only dead fish swim with the stream."
So.....are you dead yet?
Or, are you ready to start swimming?
