Conform or Die

My friend Debbie is gone.

You knew her as either suesitta or debbiepet.

This has been a very depressing week for me, and it has become very clear. Conform or die.

In Washington today, we got a goo taste of that. The 4th Amendement was essential neutered by both Democrats and Republicans. And don't count on our new savior to help you. If you are wondering how they can do that, please remember that the people who are in control (and its not the Trilaterals or the Build-A-better-burgers or whatever they're called) have set it up so they only have to ask one question...

What do you rather family or your freedom?

Wat would you rather have, live you live truthfully/honestly and lose everything.....or live a lie required by society/state/mores and continue your exsistance?

This is what I have been talking about for the last 20 years and the last three on Multiply. That one day they will come to get you because of what you say or what you post.

And I do not think it is Multiply's choice. All social networks are in play. Even ning has been co-opted by GE and TimeWarner. Companies who, themselves, are very skittish when it comes to certain content.

They will force you to water down, tone down, maybe even deny yourself.

Online, you will be deleted. Offline, it could be worse.

Your family may be split. Your job terminated. You could become a social pariah.

Depending, you may even be imprisoned. Or worse.

Am I being over dramatic? I truly wished I was. For there was a time when I truly believed in freedom. When I thought that was what this country was about. That's what I learned in school.

Now was it all a big, fat lie.

A friend of mine, one of the vanished, one repeated the lyrics of a song from South Pacific. It was written about race, but it could also mean gender, sexuality, anything. They are lyrics that play themselves out over and over on a daily basis, online and on the real world. I have tried to resist them, but each day the become harder...

You've got to be taught to hate and fear
You've got to be taught from year to year
It's got to be drummed in your dear little ear
You've got to be carefully taught

You've got to be taught to be afraid
Of people whose eyes are oddly made
And people whose skin is a different shade
You've got to be carefully taught

You've got to be taught before it's too late
Before you are six or seven or eight
To hate all the people your relatives hate
You've got to be carefully taught
You've got to be carefully taught

-South Pacific/Rogers and Hammerstein

I am beginning to wonder if freedom ever exsisted....
